Ethan Unruh is a tall, lanky 6-5 RHP from Woodinville, WA. HS Ethan is thought to have considerable developmental potential. He has long limbs with loose mechanics and throws from a low 3/4 arm slot. The sidearm delivery enables him to run and sink his 85-87 MPH fastball making the it play up, and he can deliver a sweeping curve ball making for uncomfortable at bats.
Ethan was one of twelve pitchers in the Oregon State 2023 recruiting class. Competition for innings will be intense. He may have felt the class was a bit crowded with pitchers. UW has a new Head Coach with a pitching coach background, in need of pitching, and Montlake is much closer to home than Corvallis. Reasonable assumptions for the decommit.
Prep Baseball Report has him ranked as the 7th best prospect in the state for '23.

Overstocked?
The Beavers brought in 21 recruits in the class of 2022. They also had 21 commitments in the class of 2023 prior to Ethan Unruh and Jayden Holloway decommitting. 42 recruits in 2 years isn't really workable. With 11 3/4 Scholarships to work with (or 23 Tuition only schollies), 1/3 of your final roster target of 35 are walk-ons.
If you assume the 23 scholarships are distributed over 4 years, that would put 30 of those 42 commits in the "walk-on" category. Because of volume and talent level, the chances of starting at OSU as a walk-on and earning a scholarship become slim at best.
Lack of scholarship "opportunity" or a better $$ offer elsewhere will lead to a few decommits. 2023 is a heavy class in spite of losing Speyshock, Unruh and Holloway.
We now have 19 members in the 2023 class, 12 in 2024, 11 in 2025 and 4 in 2026. 46 future Beavers over the next 4 classes with more to come
The coaches are finding little difficulty in finding good prospects that are eager to play at OSU. Class sizes have increased at OSU - The risk of recruiting MLB draft prospects and the new transfer rules and portal.
