According to article I linked here, he has high upside. Has battled some injuries also according to the article. Here’s the blurb about type of player he is. Currently rated as a three-star prospect, Marrs is a guy who has huge upside and could prove to be a huge steal. Not only is he 6-foot-11, but he moves with great fluidity and is a big time athlete. His second jump is quick, he is on balance and he can really run the floor. He's a lob finisher, can attack off the dribble and is also a very good passer for a big man. Defensively his bounce and length allow him to protect the rim at a high level. 247sports.com/Article/College-basketball-recruiting-Oregon-State-lands-three-star-power-forward-Gavin-Marrs-194283668/

Apparently played only 8 games last season rehabbing a bad back but still finished honorable mention all state in Washington. He also apparently has recovered and played for Friends of Hoop AAU team during the summer.

It was the first thing I noticed. Like the way he moves for a 6-11 guy.

Gavin grew at an incredible rate from age 14-16. Obviously that takes a toll on your body. His sophomore year was a covid year and got to play almost zero being in Washington.
Last year they found a hairline fracture in his back. So he was limited to 8 games.
Kid literally hasn’t gotten to play.
You don’t find big guys the move like him or jump like him very often. Evidently he puts up the numbers in combine style work outs that rival guys at the NBA combine.
Fact of the matter is this. Had he not been so unlucky with covid years and other injuries he’d probably be rated a top 50 player in the class of 2023 and would have been much more heavily recruited.
This will be an absolute steal for the Beavers

Let’s hope his health issues are behind him.

Nowhere have I seen more than very general platitudes online about this kid. Where are some concrete statistics?

As a freshman he was a backup to the backups, as a sophmore there was no basketball, as a junior he played 8 games yet got all-state mention. It's tough to find stats for small high schools and AAU teams. It'll probably be easier to find/follow stats now that he's turning heads as a recruit.

Thanks Ward. Hopefully he is able to put his health problems behind him. AC Green also grew a lot in his high school years. All the time playing guard before the growth spurt served him well. Not saying this kid is another AC, but it makes some sense that he would have some skills other big guys may not.

Signed this a.m. Officially He looks like a bonafide sleeper. Kid really moves well, is coordinated and fluid, that doesn't come in all 6' 11" guys. Don't know if he has moves or can shoot, but he can definitely run the floor and finish. I think he will be a keeper. Think about a raw tall kid from Parkrose that is now a Blazer named Drew!!

Real athletic kid who needs some more physical development. I believe Drew played at Reynolds h.s. Parkrose is where we got Blume,Woodside,Holbrook, and Ray Ross.

How many can we sign this year without weeding out a few existing kids in the off-season? I know we have a bunch of younger guys, is this it?

I’ll give some Gavin updates.
Ellensburg 2A defeated 4A Eastmont on the road. Gavin had 18 and dominated in all aspects of the game. Final score was 67-59, Eastmont is a much bigger school.
So, good sign.
