Baseball America has ranked the 2022 college recruiting classes with the Beavs checking in at Number 16. As usual, the SEC and ACC dominate the rankings but UO finished a surprising 5th with a strong class of position players. Stanford at Number 21 and UCLA at Number 22 round out the four PAC-12 schools ranked. Here is the National ranking.
1. LSU 2. Ole Miss 3. Louisville 4. Florida 5. Oregon 6. Auburn 7. Vanderbilt 8. Oklahoma State 9. Mississippi State 10. Texas 11. Arkansas 12. Clemson 13. TCU 14. Florida State 15. Texas Tech 16. OREGON STATE 17. Duke 18. Texas A&M 19. Tennessee 20. Miami 21 Stanford 22. UCLA 23. South Carolina 24. Georgia Tech 25. Virginia
* * * Oregon State Recruiting coordinator: Rich Dorman and Ryan Gipson
Top recruit: Gavin Turley, OF (No. 85)
Overview: Oregon State in 2021 brought its highest-ranked recruiting class (No. 6) to campus since 2013. The 2022 group doesn’t rank quite as high, but it’s another very strong class for the Beavers, especially after Turley came to school despite being drafted by the D-backs.

I'm not going to say I'm stunned by Oregon popping up 5th, because it's Oregon, but our class is much better than theirs.
Their top guys that didn't sign are Dominic Hellmann, who is big and strong but has a truly bizarre swing. Played SS in high school, probably corner IF or maybe corner OF in college. I think he'll struggle. The swing is exploitable. Daniel Garate, who can definitely pick it at SS, but I don't see him doing much but slapping the ball around a lot. Matthew Grabmann, RHP, throws gas, solid spin rate, but looks like command may be an issue. He's a fantastic thrower, not a great pitcher yet. The rest of their guys, hit and miss, some decent prospects.
I'm biased, of course, but I wouldn't trade our class for theirs.

So do these rankings still reflect players that signed pro contracts, or is this the ranking after signing?

Turley slipped in the final rankings with several of the sites offering prep coverage. By placing a "First Round only" price tag on himself, he fell to the 19th round selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 19th round was not indicative of his draft value but it may have influenced Prep Baseball Report and Baseball Factory in their final 2022 rankings.
Rhe #86 ranking by Baseball America is an outlier, but not surprising given their sparse prep coverage and data base. They do a magnificent job covering the professional game, and provide some college coverage, but high school baseball is not their focus.
Under Armour's Baseball Factory slipped him to #51 in their final ranking, Prep Baseball Report that had him as low as #17 earlier, ranked him #49 in their final ranking.
Perfect Game, IMO the most thorough and comprehensive site for prep and summer travel ball, ranked Gavin #16 in their final poll.
If the #86 ranking upsets you, this might be your Bromide. Adley Rutschman was ranked #432 by Perfect Game and #388 by Prep Baseball Report. Cooper Hjerpe was ranked #500 by Perfect Game and #307 by Prep Baseball Report. Jacob Melton and Wade Meckler were never ranked.
Gavin Turley has incredible baseball tools - a potential 5 tool player, His metrics are mind boggling and he's about to spend 3 years in a program known for outstanding Player Development. Focus on the player's skills and ignore any rankings . . . good or bad.

Can't wait to see this class on the field!
Also, the stupid ducks ain't goin away in baseball. They are on par with us in recruiting, which I guess is to be expected somewhat with all their Nike money. Good thing we have a better coaching staff, and culture

Good thing we have a better coaching staff, and culture Horton recruited at a very high level and we all saw how that ended. Woz will put some competitive teams out there from time to time, but they will never take the next step in baseball because of the culture of their university.

Yep.....I know someone who knows Woz, and says he's an asshole. Fits right in with nike U. And that huge yellow toilet seat in center. I mean come on! Leave it hole to do that.

Focus on the player's skills and ignore any rankings . . . good or bad. PG just ranked Turley as #1 amongst PAC 12 freshman. They (PG) already had him at 16th overall nationally, regardless of position. Feb 2023 (Surprise AZ - when the Beavs face Minnesota with a 99mph pitcher?) will be an early test as to who has the better 'take' PG, or Baseball America. An even earlier 'take' could occur on Oct. 1, 2022 in Bend Oregon as the Beavs take on Gonzaga in a DH. Look for Gavin Turley to make a 'statement'. To be honest, I've never been this excited to see an incoming Freshman, as I am re: Gavin Turley.

Gavin is a freshman, I suspect there will be an adjustmen period as he transitions to college ball. He has seen the the nations best best pitching in his prep career at Hamilton HS and in the summer's elite tournaments. He will be pitched more carefully and see fewer fastballs in college. He should be OSU's fastest player immediately, and have one of the strogest arms as well.
Gavin's challenge will be to reduce the number of K's he racks up without giving up the towering 425 foot blasts that clear the bases.
