ProBoards and their parent company rely on ad revenue as part of their business model. So without ads, yes I don't think they would survive. As mentioned above, they do offer a couple of ways to pay to have ads removed. Regarding viglink, let me look into whether or not it should be happening. my adblocker on safari takes care of the ads.
