Anyone know why whenever somebody types a link like that, it ends up with a redirect.vigilink tracking link on it when you click on it?
Is that something the forum automatically does?

Yes - the forum’s platform automatically adds the redirect, which enables them to track what websites get traffic pushed to them from the different forums. This information helps them sell ads on the site. |

Why don't you want to support this site? Without the ads, ProBoards wouldn't be free, and I suspect we wouldn't have Benny's House.

Really? Then how was OA able to run the board in the past without the endless annoying pop up ads? As I recall, different platform, but I am tired of everyone resigning themselves to being bombarded with ads because, after all, we can't live without them. I call BS. With a guaranteed removal of all ads, I think many posters on this board would give a few dollars each month to be add free. Just a thought. |

I am fine with proboards showing me all the ads they want to, but not invading my privacy, which is what the tack-on redirect links are for. It's invasion of privacy being labeled as "targeted ads." |

It has since evolved into BeaverBlitz.com as part of the 24/7 network. They serve you ads and hound you to become a member. Anyway, you can buy yourself a gift of ProBoards+ and all adds will be gone. It's $2.99 a month and you'll get a cool like icon in your profile like me. |

ProBoards and their parent company rely on ad revenue as part of their business model. So without ads, yes I don't think they would survive. As mentioned above, they do offer a couple of ways to pay to have ads removed.
Regarding viglink, let me look into whether or not it should be happening.

my adblocker on safari takes care of the ads.
