Keeping players on their own side of the diamond is a must imo. I hate the shift.

Almost every MLB pitcher throws 92-95, and can put the ball wherever they want it fairly regularly. It's not that easy for batters, the best of whom fail 7 out of 10 at-bats, to simply "adapt." Pull hitting is natural. Spray hitters like Carew and Gwynn are the exception.

You can bunt to the side with no players. The problem is the players get paid to hit HR’s, not singles. It’s ruined the game.

Everybody's approach now is to swing as hard as you can. THAT'S why the shift works so well. A much smaller group of players "hit it where it's pitched". If guys insist on swinging for the fences on every pitch, they deserve to hit into the shift. MLB keeps "saying" they want to stop the move to the "3 true outcomes" and long games, yet many of the rule changes they make just reward the strategies that lead to 3 true outcomes.

The shift is aesthetically displeasing. I hate it.
Yes, the solution is to hit the ball where the defender isn't, and it is such a simple solution that I can't figure out why the shift is advantageous. Pros ought to be able to adapt. At the college level, I would like to see the shift outlawed for sure.
I'm not a fan of the pitch clock. I like the mental aspect of the game, so I like batters being able to slow down the pitcher and the pitcher trying to break the batter's rhythm. I think trying to put a clock on the battle between pitcher and batter harms the game.

Pitcher holds the ball, looks at the batter for 10-15 seconds, shakes off about three signs for pitches he can't throw.
Batter gets tired of waiting, steps out, adjusts gloves for the third time.
Batter steps back in, pitcher dicks around some more, then steps off, and the whole dance starts over.
30-40 seconds with absolutely nothing going on.
Get in the friggin box. Throw the friggin ball.

You forgot the 10 seconds it takes for the dugout to relay the signs to the catcher, and then the catcher to relay the signs to the pitcher. At least now they're going to this radio set in the helmet, I guess. That part above was always the worst to me. Even a HS catcher ought to be able to understand strategy enough to make good decisions on pitch selection. The signal relay from the bench to the catcher was always SO annoying.
