This time it's 14 year old David Tanner, a RHP that is about to begin his freshman year in high school. Tanner is 5'9" 170 and will play for Woodland, CA. HS hoping to follow in Cooper Hjerpe's footsteps with the Woodland Wolves. David is also a left handed hitting infielder when not pitching.
David Tanner is the 5th member of Oregon State's 2026 recruiting class.

I saw his name come up on Perfect Game a few days ago.
*Cue the conspiracy theory music.*
A month and a half ago, he was shown as an Arkansas commit. Now, he's allegedly flipped to Oregon State less than two months later, *years* ahead of signing day.
There are a couple of mentions of him playing on a Babe Ruth team, but no tape that I can find. No actual social media presence. Nobody on any Arkansas board had even heard of his commitment. I get it, some guys don't have much social media presence, some don't go to camps this early in their career.
But something seems off about this one, I don't think he's a real commit. It wouldn't be the first time, there was a kid out of Alabama shown as a commit for a couple weeks earlier this year, but he also didn't have any available information.
Not trying to denigrate the kid.
He may be a prospect, we may have interest in him. But Perfect Game's self reporting system means they can report a commitment that the school doesn't have a clue about. Or maybe he accidentally reported he committed when he meant to report an interest in that school?
Who knows.
And I just double checked, he's no longer listed as a commit.

Verbal commitments from 14 year old 8th graders will always carry an element of uncertainty.
Unless there is a coach - player's family relationship in play, or there are really solid reasons for deciding on a school, the prospect might be suspect. Teenagers change their minds quite easily.
I have some feelers out - we'll see.
