It was mentioned in a thread on the football board that analysts were saying that Seattle would be very bad this year, during the course of the preseason rout by Chicago. How could they make that determination after 2 preseason games? Rather than highjack that thread, I will comment here.
One name: Geno Smith. Geno Smith is bad. Geno Smith is very very bad. They should call him Genocide Smith, for all the hopes he will kill this season.
That Seattle is bent on starting him when there is a better (not much) alternative in Drew Lock says a lot about Seattle's intentions. The fact that they did not try to pick up easy acquisitions of Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo makes it clearer.
Seattle is tanking this season in hopes of getting a top three pick to draft either CJ Stroud or Bryce Young. A lot can change over the course of a season, but that's what it looks like right now to me.

But how many top drafted QBs have really turned out to be worth it? Lots of great QBs end up drafted in later rounds, Pete Carroll's Seahawks rarely fare well in preseason games it seems to me. (Not gonna bother to look it up.) But they always look different during the season. I don't see them tanking. Carroll always has something up his sleeve.

I agree that Carroll is not the type to tank. But unless he's got a better QB up his sleeve, it's going to be a long season.

Tanking before the season with a specific QB in mind is probably a bad idea.
Look at the last time that was what some fans thought was a good idea: "Tank for Tua".
Miami traded away a bunch of top talent for draft picks, and they were a solid pre-season choice for the worst team in the league.
They ended up being the 5th worst team, Tua got hurt, Joe Burrow emerged as the top QB in the nation, and because of all the hype, the Dolphins still ended up picking Tua at 5th instead of Justin Herbert, who has been a far superior QB in the NFL than Tua.

They should’ve planned better while Wilson was around.
