I think Steven Kwan might have something to say about ROY.

Adley or Kwan would be walking away with the NL ROY award right now. In the AL, it is going to be hard for either to dislodge Julio Rodriguez, unless either truly catches on fire or Julio just completely falls apart down the stretch.

I think Steven Kwan might have something to say about ROY. As good as Kwan is playing, he's not in the same league as Adley.

Both Adley and Kwan are hands down having better years than Michael Harris or Spencer Strider for Atlanta? Strider is a rookie starter with 13.5 k/9 and an era of 3.

Both Adley and Kwan are hands down having better years than Michael Harris or Spencer Strider for Atlanta? Strider is a rookie starter with 13.5 k/9 and an era of 3. Michael Harris II is the NL ROY IMO. Adley gets on more often. Harris is faster and has played in two more games, but Adley has hit three more extra-base hits. Plus Adley has immediately become one of the five-best defensive catchers in the game and plays in a much more high-leverage position. Harris only has to worry about every third or fourth pitch, while Adley has to worry about every pitch. Kwanny has had a better season than both, so I will not go into that. Hands down might be a stretch as I look at it again, but yeah. Spencer Strider is first in line behind Harris for NL ROY. Strider pitched his first 11 in the bullpen. His numbers are buoyed by his time in the bullpen. He had about a half strikeout more per inning in the bullpen and was averaging more than an earned run less per nine innings. He has pitched in 25 games but is averaging fewer than four innings an outing, so his 25 games is more like 11 nine-inning games. His 25 games are probably better than anyone else's best 25 games, Julio Rodriguez included. However, the fact of the matter is that he has played less than a sixth of even what Adley has played and less than a ninth of what Kwan has played. In aggregate, Adley, Kwan, and Harris have all done more than Strider. If Strider keeps starting and putting together bullpen-type performances, we have a different conversation. But at this point, he is second in line in the NL and about sixth in line in the Majors for ROY. I do not believe that anyone comes close to matching him for rookie pitcher of the year, though.

Fun fact: Kwan and Adley are both major league starters for teams that are both square in the playoff hunt. I don't think that anyone will argue that Adley is more talented. But Kwan has the third-most starts of any rookie. Right now, you are comparing Kwan's full season with Adley's 2/3 of a season. If Adley started April with Baltimore, Adley is probably first in line for MLB ROY. As it is, Kwan has had the better season so far.

I simply echoed the opinion of the folks on MLBTraderumors. I concur. In 104 games Kwan has a 3.7 WAR. In 69 games Adley is a 3.0 WAR. I expect Adley to pull ahead. BTW JRod has a 4.12 WAR after 101 games. I think Kwan will be in the top five -- as will Adley. But ...

Adley has indeed been an important part of the resurgence of lowly Baltimore, but it's a reach to see him as AL ROY.
FACT: his BA this season in MLB is .248 with an .798 OPS. Dragged down indeed by a slow adjustment period (His August BA is .275 with an .925 OPS).
If Orioles make the post season...and Adley continues on his August pace, he'll be a ROY candidate...
...than again there is JR at Seattle who has played 100+ games this season and is currently at 19 HR / 21 SB, with an OPS on the season of .797

Adley with a double and another HR today. Kwan with his 5th triple on the year.

I believe I saw that Kwan was leading the AL in defensive runs saved

Adley's last month - BA .309 , 3 HR , 9 RBI, 22 Runs, 22 walks to only 16 K's . with his defensive abilities that is multiple all star game appearances stuff. (rbi total down because he hits in the 2 hole a lot. all the O'S 8-9 hitters are under the Mendoza line except one.)

I believe I saw that Kwan was leading the AL in defensive runs saved Kwan leads all AL outfielders in defensive runs saved, because of range. He is so fast that he can cover so much ground out there. There are some AL infielders, who have saved more runs, because they tend to get more chances, particularly in today's game. Rutschman is second amongst catchers in runs saved, because of framing, and third amongst catchers for "good fielding plays."
