As suspected, It does not appear that prep phenom Gavin Turley signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Can we now expect him to put those 5 tools to work in Goss Stadium?
No indication or report that Ben Ferrer has signed a free agent contract anywhere. Can we reasonably assume he is returning for another exciting year?
Do we at least get partial credit for the free agency signing of LHP Andrew Walling with the Phillies?
With the signing of 8 Beaver players, MLB teams distributed around $4,232,550 in bonus dollars to the graduates of the Pro Baseball Academy in Corvallis, Oregon. If you include the two OSU recruits to the total, it swells to $4,667,550.
That $ figure puts the 1st pick slot into perspective - it is a little more than half of what Adley meant to the Oriole organization on draft day in 2019.

Acćording to Eggers Turley and Ferrer likely will be Beavers...he is usually well connected.

Unless Ben Ferrer has graduated, he should be locked in for 2023. Andrew Walling played two years at Oregon State, 2019 and 2020. He actually pitched on Saturday in Starkville in 2020. That may have motivated him to transfer out for greener pastures after the 2020 season.

Andrew Walling has just 1 full college season under his belt (Eastern Oklahoma State College - 2021: 69 innings / 107 SO / 27 BB / 2.45 ERA) - damn good indeed. In 2019 he pitched <7 innings for the Beavs. In 2020 he pitched < 4 innings for OSU. He only pitched 3 innings in 2022 for Mississippi State. I suppose the Phillies must be relying on scouting, and on his 2021 season on a NJCAA Team (EOSC). Sometimes scouts earn their $$. Sometimes, they don't.

Walling is left-handed, has a great, projectable body and can throw hard. He checks all the boxes, even though he hasn't performed at all at anyplace he's played. Kind of like John Pomeroy (or Joe Messman and Mark McLemore, for you old-timers) , who couldn't throw a strike to save his life, but could throw 95 MPH. No scout will be dinged for recommending a guy with Walling's projectables, even with a bad college career. Messman flamed out. McLemore made the majors and did well until he blew out his elbow. You never know. The draft is 50% accomplishment, 50% potential.

Walling hit the radar screens with a big jump in velo after leaving OSU.
He threw 87-90 at Mark Morris HS in Longview and during the Area Code games in soCal following his junior year. He suffered a UCL injury and underwent Tommy John surgery and missed his Senior year of HS competition in basketball and baseball at MMHS.
At OSU, I recall him reaching 90-91 in the fall but Bailey/Yeskie never seem to use him much and there was some discussion here about playing him at 1B - he was a prolific hitter with power at Mark Morris. At Eastern Oklahoma C.C. he was rocking at 95-96, a surprising and sudden up-tick in velocity (time at Driveline maybe?) and was a Top-10 JuCo recruit that MSU jumped on and he was on his way to Starksville.
Don't know the MSU story but the velo must still be intact to sign a Pro contract. Kind of odd experience at OSU. Obviously talented, he just never got airborne.

Before the season started, some were talking about Walling being a surefire First Day pick. And then, the season started and that was no longer true. Of all of the lefties at the MLB Combine, Walling had the second-fastest fastball. He is also supposed to have a great slider. If I had to guess, I am guessing that he has trouble with control. The fastball goes fast, but it does not move enough or moves too much or he cannot hit spots. And his slider moves but no one has any idea where from pitch-to-pitch.

Scouts look for repeatability. If you can't throw your good stuff with consistency, you have no chance.

Scouts for some teams also look for raw talent. With the correct coaching, raw talent can become polished talent. There is no doubt that Walling has raw talent.
The Phillies must believe that they can do something with Walling's raw talent and are willing to pay to try.

Carpenter's velo also got him drafted out of high school in the the 18th round by the Phillies.
If he can harness the heat, he should have a nice career.
