…..with a spot o’ tea…… just joking about the tea…… I’ve been kinda/sorta rethinking my original disdain for those “traitors” who turned their selfish backs on the PGA. I suppose I understand their desire to play less rounds, in a different format, while gaining more control over their professional and private lives. If THAT is the motivation for their departure, I get it. The NFL begat the AFL, and then merged. The NBA begat the ABA, and then merged. My problem continues to be “where the money comes from,” I suppose, fist-pump and all. Maybe I’m wrong.

The original AFL and ABA were almost totally filled with players who didn't get a chance in the established leagues.
Guys in the LIV went for the money. That's OK, but don't try to find other reasons for their defections. It was all about appearance money and the other cash, supplied by an arm of a corrupt government.

And the leagues were mostly in markets that the NFL and NBA had overlooked. AFL - Houston, Miami, Boston, Buffalo, Kansas City, San Diego, Denver, Cincinnati ABA - Louisville, Norfolk/Richmond, Charlotte/Greensboro/Raleigh, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Denver, Dallas, SaltLakeCity, Memphis. I've not followed the LIV at all but I know they did a weekend in North Plains.

For my age, I could not imagine pro (NFL level) football being absent from every city you listed except, of course, San Diego. Same with a lot of the ABA cities, but not all. I remember when the Jazz moved to Salt Lake and in my teenage years thought it strange that they kept the name "Jazz."

Does that mean none of the defectors in playing in the British Open?

However, LIV founder Greg Norman was not invited to the British Open champions dinner.

The PGA doesn’t run the PGA championship? The PGA runs it, but it’s not part of the PGA tour. The LIV players are only banned from tour events.

The PGA is the Professional Golfers of America. It runs the PGA Championship, among other things, like the U S Amateur, etc., and makes its own eligibility rules. It is an entirely different organization than the PGA Tour.

Maybe it's bit like the Major League Player's Association and the Minor League Player's Association.

So the PGA does run the PGA championship. Thanks for confirming. I’m sure many posters missed your condescending, snarky responses in your absence. “They are banned from PGA events. The PGA does not run the British Open, the US Open, the Masters or the PGA.”The above assertion (relative to the PGA not running the PGA championship) is not factual. Tough luck if people don’t like seeing erroneous assertions corrected. I’ve certainly made my share and generally appreciate being corrected & don’t take it personally.
