It looks like at least 4 OSU pitchers (including incoming Nelson Kelso, Jesuit HS) are having summer WCL success, to date [season almost half over].
Ian Lawson (pitching tonight in Corvallis), Ryan Brown, Nelson Keljo and AJ Lattery are all hovering at about 1.0 WHIP to date in the WCL (a combined 25 innings, with 19 hits & 5 BB).
WCL is a far cry from PAC, but in terms of hitting success there are some useful comparisons. Bazzana had a good freshman year at bat for Beavs, but we know that he positively tore up the WCL. On the other hand: 2021
WCL (BA: Dernedde .129, Logan .307) >>> 2022
OSU (BA Dernedde .216, Logan .281).
Lattery (Bend) is the only Pitcher who has had longer outings. In 2 starts: 11 IP with
15 SO / 0 BB.
One more interesting summer note.
Wilson Webber, who should be an important part of the 2023 Beavers may have 'grown up' at the plate. Last season, just out of High School, in 98 WCL ABs he went .
214 / .275 / .347. This season, at half way point in the WCL (Bend, 50 AB) he's
.360 / .475 / .600.Only a little more two months until Fall Ball begins!
