A gentleman's sport.

My father, an avid golfer and golf enthusiast, has told me that the great thing about golf is that it is a gentleman's game. After playing in the morning, he often watched tour events on television, sitting in his own version of an Archie-Bunker chair and holding a golf club--with the proper grip, of course--as he did so. And a few times as I sat and watched with him, he told me of the gentleman's game.
And he meant it. Manners mattered in our household; few things can raise my father's ire to the level that bad manners can. This of course includes swearing. Damn, hell, any sort of blasphemy or even just telling someone to "shut-up" brought down a great fury.
And so one of my most vivid memories came when I was about 13 and watching a golf match with my father and his golf club. He pointed out the respect golfers had for each other at the end of the round, shaking hands and courteously thanking each other for the game. He pointed out how everyone in the crowd applauded a the players, no matter who they were. Respect from the players, respect from the crowd. He had just finished saying that, "the great thing about golf is that it is a gentleman's game." And then CBS switched from the 18th green to another part of the course, just in time to follow a golfer who almost made it out of a bunker only to have it hit the top and roll back down, not far from where the shot had begun. CBS was not in time, however, to block the very clear "f%#*!" that the golfer yelled.
My father turned to me, and without missing a beat, said, "Most of the time."

+15 would be a pretty good score for me.

+15 would be a pretty good score for me. For me too, after 5 holes.
