I agree that the umpire in game one was atrocious. But did the umpire in game three ever have a call that went against Auburn? It may have happened, and I missed it.
As for timely hitting, Auburn's first "timely hit" was a long fly ball to left that barely left the field. And that was the only RBI hit for Auburn. The other two runs were scored on an error and a fielder's choice.
Oregon State went 0-10 with runners in scoring position. And Auburn went 0-3 with runners in scoring position. It was a game, where there was absolutely no timely hitting by either team. And blue having a zone that varied from pitch-to-pitch was a huge part of that.
Oregon State had more opportunities to score and didn't get it done. But Auburn did not convert their runners in scoring position either. They were gifted a runner on third with no outs, and that was the ballgame.
Yes, Auburn had a couple of bad strike calls. On of our few K’s was not a strike.
That game was not our pitching, the umps or anything else other than us not getting a key hit or a break.
Sometimes you lose and there is no one to blame but yourselves. This was the case last night. Plenty of chances to take a couple run lead and it just didn’t work out.
1 a couple of changed calls could have changed the outcome of that game.
2 a couple of timely hits by our offense could also have changed the outcome of the game.
Both can be true. It seems especially important to acknowledge now that we all know the technology is available to eliminate balls and strike call errors. College umpires will never be good enough to call the college strike zone consistently, technology should be adopted to fix this obvious problem.
