I wanted to share Coopers career numbers with some of you that may not have had time to look at his stats. Impressive would be an understatement. He played at OSU in 2020, the Covid-19 Pandemic shortened season, 2021 and this year, 2022. The 2020 season was short, OSU played 14 games and had 42 games cancelled because of the Pandemic. So, he actually pitched for 2 and a partial seasons.
He made 41 appearances and 33 of those were games he started. He threw 192 1/3 innings, allowed 132 hits, and 72 earned runs - his ERA was 2.66. He allowed 57 BB (walks), hit 20 batters, and struck out 275 hitters. His walk to strikeout ratio of 1:4.83 is off the charts. His per 9 inning average was 2.67 BB/ per 9 innings, and 12.9 K/ per 9 innings. Both metrics are "exceptional". In the 41 games he appeared, opposing hitters batted .215 against him. His W-L record was 15-8 with 3 saves. His WHIP was 1.08. Another excellent metric.
Those numbers are All American numbers. Those numbers are Dick Howser Award numbers. Those numbers are Golden Spikes Award numbers. The kid from Capay will take his place among the elite pitchers that have thrown at Oregon State. He now holds several OSU single season records, was an All American, and will go early in the draft. This was a win-win scenario - recruiting him out of Woodland HS was a big win for the Beavers and his development at OSU into one of the best chuckers in the country, and hopefuly a sucessful professional career, was also a big win for Cooper.
Cooper came to OSU baseball camp as a high school freshman - PC liked him, built a relationship, and the rest of the story we all know.

I'm hoping he pitches at least a couple more games for us!
