Pretty sure Melton and Gilbert would've been in the same recruiting class if Gilbert would have ended up coming here so both would have been here to start the 2020 season. Melton as an incoming juco transfer and Gilbert as a freshman. Casey never would've coached Gilbert so the questions about Pat tolerating his antics aren't applicable. Would Mitch have tolerated them? I'd say doubtful. Either way doesn't much matter. Also I will add If I'm a MLB talent evaluator there us no way I would draft Drew Gilbert before Jacob Melton so I'm skeptical of that projection. Guess we will see

Melton was a "Beast with a bat" at South Medford. He led the state's 6A hitters in average and several other catagories. In spite of what our coaches will try to take credit for, "they did not make him fast"(LOL) - Jacob could always run. Coach Bailey missed the boat on Melton but to his credit may have placed Jacob at LBCC.
He continued his bat-to-ball skills with the Medford Rogues and Linn-Benton CC.
The tools were always there and Jacob was always a good prospect, because of some missed evaluation, he just wasn't a high profile recruit.
