That is perfect news for us...question is, do we sit Hjerpe until Sunday? I think he'd start Saturday. It would be four days off(Today, W, Th, Fr). before he'd pitch again

That is perfect news for us...question is, do we sit Hjerpe until Sunday? I wouldn't sit Hjerpe until Sunday......now is not the time to get cute. Here is how I hope it shakes out. Hjerpe Win Pfennigs Win On to Omaha with our rotation in order.

Hjerpe Win Pfennigs Win On to Omaha with our rotation in order. I don't think that it is being cute. Pfennigs threw on Saturday and would be on full rest. Hjerpe would only be on four days' rest. Auburn's pitchers are all on full rest. I would love to throw Hjerpe, if he is ready. But he may need until Sunday to rest up. Better yet is if Saturday rains out, like the 2007 Super Regional. Give Oregon State a chance to rest up Start Hjerpe on Sunday, and throw Pfennigs on Monday.

That is more like 5 days rest.

Right now, this minute........I'm leaning towards the position Smails is taking. Throw Coop & have a 1-0 lead going into Sunday.

game 1 is always super important to win. Throw the best guy we have.. Throw the best guy who is fully-rested. Absolutely. I don't want this to be a Luke Heimlich situation. We brought Heimlich back on short rest, and he pitched great. But then Heimlich pitched like hot garbage in Omaha. As long as Hjerpe throws great in one of the first two games, everything is great. There is absolutely no reason to rush him back to start on Saturday, though............unless you are planning on throwing him on Monday, if necessary.

"Rushing back"? Cooper basically pitched his BP session or less (in some cases they will work extra on getting "feel" for a certain pitch) during a game Monday/edit. He's actually getting an extra time pitching Saturday night vs Friday.

Luke Heimlich threw on Saturday and then Friday and then gave up 6 in 2.1 at Omaha, 3 in 2.2 in game 3 and 4 in 4.1 in game 6. Hjerpe can come back and pitch on Saturday. That can absolutely be done. Whether it should is my question. Unless we plan to trot Hjerpe back out for an inning on Monday, if necessary, I say start him once on Sunday and then prep him to start the following Saturday against the Ole Miss-Southern Miss winner. Or hell, save him to pitch Monday against Arkansas-Connecticut-North Carolina-Stanford.

He's actually getting an extra day pitching Saturday night vs Friday. In the post game presser Cooper said that his bullpen sessions are usually 15 pitches, 20 at max, and of course not under game type stress. So he was definitely extended more than a normal bullpen session with 33 pitches across 2 innings (bullpens don't usually involve sitting and re-warming). That being said he should be fine for Saturday or Sunday, whichever HE feels most comfortable with, is what I would do as the coach. Knowing Cooper he will demand to be first out of the gate, and taking on the other teams Ace
