Colorado LHP/1B Tyler Mejia commits to OSU

The Beavers have a commitment from top pitching and hitting prospect from Colorado that joins the 2022 incoming freshman class.

Tyler is a Denver Post Colorado 5A All State performer for Head Coach Ron Quintana. Mountain Vista is a stronhg Colorado baseball program, going 62-13 over Tyler's 3 season prep career (DNP during the 2020 Covid Pandemic year). They are currently playing in the CHSAA 5A Regionjals. He is a two-time All Continental League selection and a Perfect Game All Region performer. He plays summer travel team baseball for the Slammers-Hudzenner Select team. He has been named to 5 all tournament teams at Perfect Game Showcase events. He is ranked #7 on the Colorado Top-40 by Prep Baseball Report.

As a LH hitting 1B, Tyler has a balanced approach with a long fluid swing and a good eye at the plate. He is a line drive hitter. His career K:BB ratio is 0.82:1.00. He has struck out 22 times in 172 plate appearances. He has developing power as evidenced by these metrics; Distance, 345' Exit Velo of 93 mph with a 31 degree launch angle. He has stroked 14 doubles, 3 triples and 6 home runs during 2021 and to date in 2022. His footwork and glove are college level according to scouting evaluations. An athletic first baseman that flashes at the position.

Tyler has pitched in the summers on his age group teams and this year took the hill for his HS team after losing 3 very good Senior pitchers following the 2021 season. He throws four pitches, a fastball with late run at 87-88 mph and over 2,100 rpm. He throws a slider at 79 mph, a curve ball at 71 mph and a change-up at 78 mph. He has had steady increases in Velocity over the summers and scouts think he has a lot more in the tank. A projection no doubt Coach Dorman has also made.

2022 Batting Stats:  23 gms.  91 plate appearances, 42-78 for a .538 BA, 7 BB, 4 HBP, 8 K, 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 home runs. Scored 32 R with 29 RBI. SLASH is  .538/ .589/ .846 with OPS of 1,435.
