Temps expected to be 100 to 105 during the pac12 tourney. Doesn't Sacramento have a minor league ballpark that could handle the tourney? Weather in Sacramento would be nice and not horribly hot. Plus its easy to get to from any pac12 school. Lol. Seriously? The forecast is for it to be 102 degrees in Sacramento on Wednesday. Because of humidity, it will feel five degrees warmer in Sacramento than Scottsdale. It will actually feel like it is 102 degrees in Sacramento. Scottsdale's lack of humidity actually makes it feel 97 degrees, rather than 102. Plus, when you get out of Scottsdale Stadium, you are in Downtown Scottsdale, rather than in West Sacramento, across the Sacramento River from Downtown Sacramento. Plus plus, there was just a big gang shootout in Downtown Sacramento just last month, which is still generating national news. No. Put it on the Coast or in Vegas, if Scottsdale winds up being too hot.

Its beyond my comprehension how anyone would have thought playing baseball In Scottsdale at the end of May was a good idea. Its one thing if the games were at night. But they start late morning through the rest of the day. The Washington game is at 4:45 p.m. The first hour will probably be bad, but it should get better fast after that. Oregon State has to keep winning. Win, and Oregon State will get the night game on Thursday. Win again, and Oregon State gets a bye on Friday to rest up. The Saturday game might also be rough. Win it, though, and you just have the Championship Game at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The decision on where to play the tournament is suspect. The decision to have a tournament, at this moment at least, looks suspect as well. Right now the Pac-12 looks to have two teams (Beavs,Furd) as national seeds and one more (ucks)hosting a regional. UCLA and AZ also projected to qualify. Tell me how we improve this position with a tournament. Oh...and then there is that pesky little detail about having to potentially provide pitching for 6 games in 5 days the week before the real tournament starts. Think 26 runs in two games in the 2018 regional against LSU in part because they trashed their pitching arms in an attempt to win the SEC tournament. There are many things in my life that have sounded like a good idea until I started down the path to making them happen. Somebody should hit the reset button on this whole thing. The only reason that D1 Baseball is able to project that Oregon can host a Regional is because of the Pac-12 Tournament. If the season ended today, I do not think that they host, sitting in fourth in the Pac-12. If Arizona State, California or Washington win the Tournament, that is six. Oregon as an iffy Regional host could really solidify that with a good run. The Bruins as a probable borderline at-large selection can solidify their selection. Arizona could make a case for a hosting spot with a great run. LSU's pitching staff was already trashed. The Tigers did not pitch two pitchers in Corvallis because of "fatigue." One was hurt the weekend before the SEC Tournament and was not healthy enough to pitch until at least a Super Regional. The second was LSU's Sunday starter. He was hurt on short rest in the SEC Tournament. Even if he had not been hurt, he would not have pitched against Oregon State. He would have thrown against Northwestern State. The whole 2018 LSU pitching myth is very weird. The Pac-12 Tournament has already helped Oregon State's RPI. The Beavers' RPI is #2 overall only because the Pac-12 moved up the schedules a week. If there was no Pac-12 Tournament, there would not have been all the mid-week games. Oregon State would have had to play someone else March 11-13 and would probably be playing Wazzu this weekend in Pullman in third place in the Pac-12, behind both Stanford and Utah. Oregon State would be rooting for Oregon to beat Stanford, in order to have a chance to win the Pac-12 Championship and hoping that a terrible USC could somehow someway beat UCLA at least once. The Pac-12 Tournament lets all of the other conferences and the Selection Committee know that the Pac-12 is serious about baseball. Everyone plays a Tournament except the Big West. The Pac-12 could not afford to continue to play from behind. Having Scottsdale be the location of the Tournament is another issue entirely.

Thurs thru Sunday high temps range from 84 to 89 with lows in the 60 degree range. S ottsdale not so much. The shooting in Sac doesn't remotely compare to the 500 plus shot in Vegas a few years back! But I agree...SoCal seems a much better spot than AZ

Also amazing that there looks to be almost no shade at that stadium - unlike Surprise. I don't think I could make it a full game during the day in those temperatures (even reapplying SPF 100+ every hour). Plenty in the upper levels. Unfortunately those are bench seats in the 300 level sections. That said we will probably look for shade there if we are in the sun at 5 pm.

I've never opted for anything other than 200 level when in Scottsdale. But, type of seat is less important than shade in 90+ degrees. It'll be interesting to see how well attended this event is. I'd expect being it's the inaugural maybe a bit better attendance than future tourneys. But, even with Vegas as a draw the hoops tourneys aren't a big draw.
