The OSAA 6A state playoffs begin with Monday games on tap. The Oregon weather forecast for May 23rd is warm and sunny - strap it on, lace em up and get out to see a future Beaver perform on nMonday afternoon. Here is the lineup for the 6A openers.
South Eugene is at Portland-Jesuit. The Crusaders are the Metro League champion with a 19-3 record, 11-2 in the Metro. Jesit has ace LHP Nelso Keljo (OSU-'22) and slugging Infielder Levi Jones (OSU-'23) on a loaded roster. Keljo has been up to 94 and Jones has home runs in his bat from the left side.
Portland - Ida B. Wells (Wilson) is in Bend to play Summit. The Summit Storm is 14-7, and runner-up in the Mountain-Valley League with a 5-4 record. Summit is led by the fleet Floridian, OF Canon Reeder (OSU-'22). Reeder is "toolsy" with blazing speed and 4 or 5 dingers this year.
Hillsborro-Glencoe is at West Linn to play the Three Rivers League champion, Lions. West Linn is 21-4 for the year and 13-2 in the 3RL. West Linn has ace RHP Drew Talavs (OSU-23) throwing B-B's to Sophomore catcher Ryan Vandenbrink (OSU-'24). Talav cruises with low 90's heat and Vandenbrink leaves the yard with a powerful bat.
Troutdale-Reynolds is at Lake Oswego-Lakeridge to play the Three Rivers League runner-up, Lakeridge. The Pacers are 18-5, and finished with a 12-3 record in 3RL play. The Pacers have ace lefty, Paul Wilson (OSU-23) who is one of the top pitches nationally in the 2023 class. Wilson has touched 96 and has wicked secondary stuff. He has a string of 1 and 2 hit games this year and shut out League champ, West Linn, 4-0.
I haven't see any announcement on the 2A-3A-4A brackets with southern Oregon powerhouse, 4A Hidden Valley looking to repeat. Their ace RHP Isaac Hill is a 2022 OSU recruit. Santiam Christian is 19-7 with standout athlete, Ely Kennel in the infield. Ely is nationally ranked and is a gem in the Beaver's 2022 class.

All brackets are posted here: www.osaa.org/activities/bbl/brackets?div=6A Just pick the classification at the top to change. Thanks for all these updates, I enjoy them. But we don't need to say Troutdale-Reynolds, or Lake Oswego-Lakeridge do we? Its very confusing.

When you mention a school, the rule is to first mention the location of the school. You and I know where the schools are located but people from outside of Oregon do not. We have out-of-state readers that browse Bennyshouse, including some baseball coaches, I'm told.
Liberty and Century don't mean anything to a person in Phoenix until you locate them for him - then he can narrow a search if he chooses to know more.

Even if you are just on the east side of Oregon for most of your life it’s confusing. Before I lived in the valley for 12 years I wouldn’t have been able to name 20 schools in the valley and their city location. Well unless I revert to calling anything between the coast range and Cascades Portland.

Wells - the historical Wilson HS. There is a thread somewhere from a year ago or so. I had no idea what Wells was also.

It's always been Woodrow Wilson high school. I had no idea who Wells is or was. The P.I.L. was named after ex presidents...Grant,Wilson.Madison,Jefferson,etc.

Wilson is now Wells, named after a midwestern black woman journalist from the early 1900's. Madison is now McDaniel, named after a former Madison principal, at least he was local. I'm not a big believer in naming schools after humans, especially those that never set foot in Oregon. Geography or landmarks are a better fit see Moutainside, Aloha, Sunset, etc. I would've preferred Wilson be renamed Hillsdale HS and Madison could've been Rose City HS. Less controversial and more community oriented.

I never knew Wilson high school was renamed. Nothing against Ida Wells.

So it should be Grants Pass-Hidden Valley and Corvallis-Santiam Christian in your original post? Wasnt sure if you were doing it for all schools or not.

Lets agree to just call these schools by the last name, for example: Wells and not Ida B Wells. We dont say Abraham Lincoln HS or Benjamin Franklin HS.
The one that bothers me is Adrienne C. Nelson High School. Everyone insists on using the full name, it's really just Nelson. Should have been simply Happy Valley HS anyway.

We changed a school name in Corvallis from Jefferson to Harrison. No, not President Harrison. Kathryn Jones Harrison I wish they just stick with areas, trees, etc.... to name schools after.

I always wind up saying Catherine Zeta Jones elementary.
