did anyone else think NBC went way over the top on the coverage of Devin Allen and his connection to Oregon. I guess its a nice story but I would also guess 80% of the American Olympians have teammates back home watching them. haven't seen any cutaways of the Stanford swim team cheering on their Olympians. NBC with their cutaways to Eugene and dropping Helfrig's name every chance they got seemed forced. I smell uncle phil in this one. I root for every American Olympian regardless of their school to do well until they do something or say something regrettable (hope solo),

I think it's a football thing. Without checking, I'd say Allen is the only olympian who plays major college football. Nobody cares about the Stanford swim team.

Yeah , it was overhyped . Just like their other efforts so far. I think all I have seen is a bronze medal so far for the heptathlete. Definitely a story 'delivered' by those media shy duck journalists. If it were me, I would have waited and touted all the medals rather than having Rupp, Centrowicz, Allen and maybe others, miss the medal ceremonies. Kinda disappointing so far, based on the over the top attention. I watch Olympic sports when I would not go near them the other 3 years and 50 weeks. I mean, I caught myself watching water polo... Tell me that isn't an off the wall sport, also table tennis. Why ? Just cause I appreciate the US competitors. So, if it was on during my watch times - I Would also look at swimming. In fact, I was amazed at the current and incoming Stanford swim team. Ledecky is a real story . The worst sports for me are Distance runners and kayaking. Looks like everyone has a strategy instead of going hard the whole event. Maybe that is why Ethiopia wins all the time - they have to be able to outrun a lion every day.

Maybe that is why Ethiopia wins all the time - they have to be able to outrun a lion every day. I guess there's no way it could be because they are highly dedicated athletes who train extremely hard at incredible altitude. Way to reduce the accomplishments of some great athletes into an idiotic stereotype. I can guarantee you lions have nothing to do with the training regimen of Ethiopian distance runners.

I have made a handful of trips to Ethiopia over the years. A big key to their success is the altitude at which many runners train. Most of them run up a hill/mountain that starts at around 7,500 ft in elevation from the capitol city and ends at over 10,000 ft (think running daily from Timberline Lodge to the top of the Palmer glacier on Mt. Hood, and then not having to worry about snow and below freezing temperatures).

Surprising... not the sophomoric comment about lions, but somehow there was no MR put down!
