Justin B. is, of course, only a single cog in OSU's usually pretty effective offensive game. However, this team does seem unusually close and good hitting is often said to be "contagious." I wonder if the lack of offense last weekend after Boyd's injury was, at least in part, associated with more than just the absence of a single good bat from the lineup?? Maybe a kind of a contagious slump fueled by concern for an absent, injured teammate??
Probably not....but I bet a lot his teammates will be very, very happy to see Justin back in the lineup this weekend.

Sadly I think Boyd’s absence cost us big time. However our pitching was off the whole weekend. Arizona Schools have a huge Home field advantage. Night games sort of neutralized the excessive Heat. Playing them earlier in the season is better.

The three guys in our lineup who are irreplaceable are in the outfield. Boyd's ability to get on base and get around em was sorely missed.

I’d say the first painful loss on offense was wheeler. We went from deep and prolific to good and thin immediately. Losing any outfielder for any time is pretty painful.
This season we just don’t have bat depth at the corners or outfield.
Wheeler, Forrester, Bazzana, Meckler, Boyd and Melton are critical bats that we don’t have developed depth for. Catcher is basically no drop off in play between Logan and Smith. Dernedde and Trosky are interchangeable at this point. Third is still a mes with three guys who all need to develop consistent offense and various pros/cons on defense.
We have the pitching to go far and the offense is just fine if we are only missing Wheeler. Any of those other guys being out is going to be a real problem.
Good news is Boyd should be just fine for UCLA as he had no fractures. Still holding out hope Wheeler can return to form at DH for the post season. If literally any of the third basemen can get their bet going we would be a monstrous offense.
