I have a friend who faced Mitch's brother in high school. The story goes that the brother was a right hander and threw as hard or harder than Mitch and hit my friend twice in one game. Ouch! Been there, had that happen twice in one game, once in another meeting versus Tom Gorman/Woodburn. Effing ribs were sore all through Legion ball that summer.

I wasn't able to watch yesterday's game. I was out hiking. A friend did watch it, she claims that the Pac-12 TV announcers said that Mitch purposely hit the batter, threw it at him. And that it fired up Arizona's dugout afterwards. I haven't seen anything in the message board threads on this. Other than mention of a quick pitch. Can anyone comment on this? I don't think that Mitch hit the batter on purpose, but it was the turning point in the game. The Arizona coaches or players obviously thought that Mitch threw at the batter on purpose, and they turned a big deficit into a big series victory. Whether or not he thought it was intentional, the AZ coach seized the opportunity to fire up his team. He was putting on a show for that purpose. Credit to him, he got the desired result.

I watched that dude win a high school baseball championship, for West Linn at Civic Stadium in the early 1980's.(IIRC, He beat Newberg 10-0 on a one hitter in the State Championship Game.) He was a sidearm wild thing as a senior in HS, just like his pro career. 1982. Mitch Williams threw a one-hitter in the 1982 Championship Game against Newberg. The lone hit came with two outs in the top of the sixth, which would be the final inning after West Linn scored five in the bottom half of the sixth to win via the mercy rule. Williams struck out 13 in six innings. Williams was selected in the Eighth Round, #187 overall by the Padres two days later. #187 overall would be in the Sixth Round today. That was the 2nd loss in a row for Newberg in the title game. In 81 they lost to Madison with 2 Caseys in the lineup, Pat's "little" brothers Tim and Brian. In 82 with just Brian and Rod Jackson, the father of Brandon who pitched for OSU in 2013 and 2014.

Wouldn't surprise me if it did fire them up. Same sort of thing happened back in 2018 after Kevin Abel got a strikeout to end an inning, and than ran his mouth at the Arizona dugout. Soon after, the Wildcats rallied and won.

Batters move, strike zones do not, well at least they shouldn't anyhow. If we had enough command over weekend to hit batters intentionally then we sure as hell should have used that command to throw more strikes.
I doubt it was intentional, locating pitches did not go well in the desert. When's the last Sunday, let alone series, the total for PB, HBP, and WP was more than 1. Total for just Sunday was 4.

Rod Jackson was one of my favorites growing up in Newberg, with Tom Campbell Baseball being a big deal.(Great Wrestling Program for Newberg being the other big deal.) IIRC Jackson got the only hit in the State Championship game in 1982, but also got shelled by a bunch of .350 & .400 hitters from West Linn.(They were loaded) Campbell lost back to back State Championships in 1981 & 1982, but finally reached gold with his 1988 Tigard team beating Beaverton.(With former Pittsburgh Pirate Steve Cooke on the mound) Then he won a championship at Southridge with Darwin Barney in 2002 against Newberg and Dallas Buck. Newberg won the 2003 Title by offensively annihilating Jesuit, plus they still had the outstanding pitching of Buck. Both Barney(2005-2007) & Buck(2004-2006) went down "Casey Road" and contributed great things to the Oregon St Baseball Program. "Both men were there at the beginning of something special, something special that needs to keep going."

The last Sunday with more was Wazzu: 4. That was more than nine weeks ago.

That adds up to 4 the way I learned math. Of course there weren't female hygiene products in the boys bathroom back then so maybe 1+1+2 really is 3 these days.

Only a certain hall bathroom for us... no one used that one... unless!

The biggest concern in our HS bathroom wasn't who was in there but what was hanging down from the ceiling tiles ready to drop on some poor unsuspecting soles head. We had a name for them, I think it was something like staluggyites or lung buttercicles.
