I could see Meckler being a graduate transfer. I’m guessing due to free Covid year we will see a bunch of sophomores go this year which may mean a weaker class in 2023. With him being projected after 15th round, I’m not sure the signing bonus would be worth it.

Boyd is eligible for draft by age at 21 years old. He needs to go if he has major league aspirations I’d give us zero chance of keeping Boyd if he’s in the top 5 rounds. 450k+ Is a lot to give up to live the dream. If he’s under 4th round I would say stay cause if he gets any better over the next year he will be in the first two rounds.

At end of day… guys come… guys go… it’s the way of college baseball. The key will be program Mitch is developing and whether he will replace talent with talent to keep the train moving…….

Why would anyone think Meckler would transfer? Leading off for one of the best teams in the country and beloved by the fans? ?

Why would anyone think Meckler would transfer? Leading off for one of the best teams in the country and beloved by the fans? ? Not transfer. He’s fully graduated so he may hang it up or go pro on a low round contract or FA. If the year he is having isn’t getting him up the draft another year in school probably won’t help unless he has an absolute monster of a year. Really depends on how priorities, if his goal is to be a pro it’s going to be a tough route but that’s not exactly something new for Wade.

Why would anyone think Meckler would transfer? Leading off for one of the best teams in the country and beloved by the fans? ? The reason I stated he might go the route of a graduate transfer is to further his degree since he could possibly be looking at a very low draft projection. He might not want to even bother with the low pay of minor league baseball. He may make more money by entering a field that corresponds to his degree. He is also a pretty smart cookie, so that also leads me to believe there is a chance he just tries to further his occasion and fades pro ball. He would be accepted wherever he goes.

Possibly, but this is a guy we cut twice. All he ever wanted to do was play for oregon state. He can find a grad program to his liking here and hope to win a 5th championship.

Getiting some free grad school is a good investment in itself. We could absolutely use him on the tram next year for his bat, his defense and his leadership. How many times has he clutched up for us this year! Pretty sure he has a business degree specializing in finance and he has also mentioned wanting to coach. Sticking around another year has upside for a guy with goals out side of the bigs.

How about moving Bazzana to the outfield and Trotsky at 2b? A pro scout and I discussed it at practice last fall. I know Bazzana doesn't have a plus arm,but has very good speed. Just a thought. Many of our solid outfielders were converted infielders. Just as an example, Tyler Graham was a shortstop in 2003 before being converted into an outfielder. Graham replaced Ellsbury in center and officially won the National Championship by catching the final fly ball in center in 2006. Graham then went on to play in the Majors as an outfielder. No thought, other than, yeah, Casey wasn't afraid to turn infielders into outfielders. I think most kids would rather play than sit waiting behind someone. Given an opportunity, they'd probably jump at the chance. I'm not sure about Bazzana, though. He is such a good second baseman.

Go back and read the Oregonlive article, his dream is to play Major League Baseball. Says it twice in the article.
