2023 Beaver commits, LHP Paul Wilson and RHP Drew Talavs hooked up in an importantant Three-Rivers League game that may have been a forerunner to the Oregon 6A playoffs. Lakeridge 18-5 (13-3) won 4-0, defeating West Linn 18-4 (10-3) in the first of a two game series. Lakeridge lefty, Wilson pitched 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing 2 hits, 2 BB, 2 HBP and struck out 15 West Linn batters. Reportedly, he touched 98 mph in the 3rd inning but also used his his plus breaking ball to hammer the Lion hitters. Lakeridge took advantage of two West Linn errors and C Mason Utech ripped a 3 run homer in the 6th to end a scoreless tie through 5 complete. Drew Talavs pitched 7 innings for the Lions, allowed 5 hits, walked 2 and had 8Ks. Drew registered some 90 and 91's on the Stalker.
Paul Wilson lost a 2-0 thriller at Canby. Wilson issued a 6th inning walk, that was followed by a sacrifice and then Canby's only hit, a single that scored the run. Canby added a run in the 7th on a fielding error and wild pitch. Wilson threw a one hitter and K'd 13 in the loss. Lakeridge won the next day, 12-2.
Jesuit's Nelson Keljo (OSU 2022) and Noble Meyer (UO) threw Back-2-Back no hitters in consecutive games. Keljo blanked Southridge HS, Meyer held Sunset HS hitless. Sunset then defeated Keljo and Jesuit 5-1 at home.
2024 commit, Catcher Ryan Vandenbrink from West Linn is showing early signs of power at the plate. He has blasted 4 home runs through last week. Canon Reeder, the fleet CF from Bend-Summit and a 2022 commit has also hit 4 balls out of the park this spring.
Isaac Hill, a 2022 Beaver commit from Grants Pass-Hidden Valley HS is 22-2 over the last 2 years on the mound, and is tied with OSU 2023 commit Levi Jones of Portland-Jesuit at 5 home runs so far this year. Hidden Valley continues to dominate the state's 4A scene with Hill and Vidlak forming a potent one-two punch on the bump. Their 29 game win streak was ended in the first game of a doubleheader at Henley. HVHS won nthe second game to start a new streak. Hill has punched out 86 hitters this year, second only to Lakeridge's Paul Wilson who has 98. Drew Talavs (69) and Nelson Keljo (67) are up there as well.
