You guys talk like the baseball team isn’t making any money, but we set an attendance record last weekend and will probably come close to that with our final home series. Plus, we will host a regional. If we can’t afford to pay top dollar for coaches, who in the league can? The amount of money the program makes isn't a factor, as the program always operates in the red. Its a question of how much more of the athletic department's money chest should go towards the baseball program versus other needs. And its like that for every program in the country, except those who can draw close to 10,000 per game. So if I understand you correctly, every baseball team in the Pac 12 faces this dilemma. But we are a little better off than some because our attendance is best in the Pac 12. On the other hand, we’re worse off than others which fill football stadiums, since all the revenue is shared among the sports. Seems it always comes back to football.

If they really want to invest they should just get teleporters. I’d go to way more stiff if I didn’t have to drive

Yes, every program faces this dilemma except for a few in the SEC.
Oregon State is a little better off than the rest in the Pac-12 conference in that the game day revenue is larger than others. This allows for more expense spending and not having to rely as much of a subsidization, but the revenue from football and men's basketball ultimately make up for the rest of the revenue in the program budget.
To your last point, not necessarily. There are good baseball programs at schools that don't have football.

It might be better now with a cheaper coaching staff but yeah, I doubt OSU has broke even with baseball in my life. No it was not much different... OSU is in the red in almost every sport, baseball included at the ~$2 mil mark. Especially since 2021 had no ticket sales, so it would be higher (maybe over $3 mill in the red or more??) as expenses were for a entire season with no fans until the WSU series and about 500 per afterward (I think the last series vs Zona was close to 1000 per). Most have a limited idea of expenses and revenues and the true % of certain items. A pretty good site for the general break down (not by sport) is at: knightnewhousedata.org/fbs/pac-12/oregon-state-universityYou can see expenses, revenue breakdown and scroll back 15-16 years. It also shows comparisons to the Pac12 members and FBS institutions in general. I'm not sure how accurate, but I'm guessing it is a pretty good representation.

I had read somewhere a few years back that Ohio State had the largest expenses of all schools in just football, and that was well over the 100M mark. Just astounding.
