That last night OSU honored Pat Casey, the coach who led us to three NCAA championships, and then threw the ducks a bone at the same time by honoring Pat Casey, the father of modern oregon baseball.

I gotta say I was impressed that the 'ucks actually stood in a line out of their dugout the entire presentation. I'd venture to guess the 'ucks coach told his squad, "you will honor this man in his house." I'd also love to know what the bat the 'ucks coach presented to Casey had inscribed on it.
Now get the sweep today!

They could have said "the father of modern baseball north of the 40th parallel" and most of the country would agree. From the 1970's until Pat Casey, baseball was an afterthought in the Big-10, Notre Dame, and anywhere that wasn't once a part of Mexico or the Confederate States of America. He proved that northern teams could compete and that it was worth investing in.

He could have also said, without a single shred of untruth, "The reason you are even standing here today, in that uniform, is because of that man." I gotta say I was impressed that the 'ucks actually stood in a line out of their dugout the entire presentation. I'd venture to guess the 'ucks coach told his squad, "you will honor this man in his house." I'd also love to know what the bat the 'ucks coach presented to Casey had inscribed on it. He proved that northern teams could compete and that it was worth investing in. Wichita State won a National Championship in 1989, played in the Championship Game four times from 1982-1993, went to the College World Series seven times between 1982-1996 and played in the Regional Championship Game in an additional seven times between 1985 and 2006. Was Wichita State part of Mexico or the Confederate States of America? I am just curious. Oregon State was the first team North of Wichita State to win a National Championship since 1966. Pat Casey may have opened a door to teams North of Wichita State, but only Virginia has walked through it, and they are ex-Confederate States of America. Plus they hosted a regional in 2004 and 2006 and were the two-seed in the 2005 Corvallis Regional (did not play Oregon State, 2 & a BBQ). The only team North of Wichita State to play in the National Championship Game since 1976 other than Oregon State and Virginia is Michigan in 2019.
