They just lost their second game to Kentucky. Their first series loss of the year. Could we vault to number one, assuming we beat the ducks this evening?

Hmmm I don’t see it happening unless they get swept by Kentucky and we sweep the Ucks. Not sure if I want that moniker on us right now.....I would rather have it at the end of June

Agreed. Traditionally the #1 seed does not lift the NC Trophy. I think I would prefer the #2 or #3 seed. I do think the season is starting to boil down to TN/OSU and then everyone else.(as posted earlier by bennyskid in another thread)

I don't think the general perception is its Tennessee, OSU...and the rest. I think it is....which SEC team could trip the Vols up in Omaha on their was to the trophy and which if any non SEC team could possibly be a factor. Will be interesting to see if people put any real stock into Tennessee losing a series in Lexington or just chalk it up to Mint Julips.

What really matters is that we end up as the 2, 3, 6, or 7 seed assuming Tennessee gets number 1. Would prefer not to see them until the last weekend of the CWS

The goal is #1 ranking at seasons end. Fine by me if someone else wears the 1st in May ribbon.

After 2017 especially, I became very unexcited by season rankings. Hosting regionals is what’s important. So as long as we’re comfortably in the top 8, I don’t get too worked up about rankings within the top 5.

Would prefer not to see them until the last weekend of the CWS The #1 overall seed has not won a National Championship since 1999. Only two have played in the National Championship game: Texas in both 2004 and 2009. Only five other #1 overall seeds have even played in the Semifinal: 2001 Fullerton, 2011 Virginia, 2013 North Carolina, 2017 Oregon State and 2018 Florida. I want no part of the #1 overall seed. And I do not fear playing Tennessee in the National Championship Game, because they likely bite the dust well before the National Championship Series.

I don't care where we are seeded. I want to see us playing at the top of our game and getting hot at the right time!

Got to agree that the number one ranking is a curse. Not a blessing. Most of Tennessee's games have been at home. They appear to have some vulnerability on the road. We've only lost three games outside of Goss all year. Being a seasoned road team pays extra dividends, once you get to Omaha. It's helped us before, and it will again.

I hope that’s not the attitude of our players. There’s no curse, it’s just very hard to win no matter the seed. Kind of like losing your 1st game in the CWS and then winning 6 straight to win the Championship. Yet, we’ve done it twice.

Opens Doors are just that - but, they guarantee nothing.
Hate to say it but (as of this minute) both the Vols and the Beavs COULD lose a weekend series this weekend.
That's why coaches always preach one game at a time. Sure, if Beavs sweep the ucks, while Vols lose a series to KY, OSU will likely be #1 in the polls on Monday....but there is a GAME 2 in Corvallis that comes first...and btw a Game 3.
Go Beavs.....Go Kmatz. Let's hope that batters such as Melton and Bazzana get their sticks going.
