Today softball

From 7-4 and 3rd place in conference to 7-14 and hanging out with Utah at the bottom; going from hopeful to hopeless. I hope Berg is a better therapist than coach.

I wonder if Mazon has hit the wall. She's been our number 1 for most of her 4 plus years and maybe just worn out. She's logged alot of innings not having a solid #2 on staff.

In today's current climate if Berg can't get elite pitching with some of the field players she's landing I'm concerned those good fielders are going to bolt. i.e., Frosh Kiki Escobar is the real deal and I would bet she wants to compete for titles and if Berg doesn't bring in pitchers to match her skill level I wouldn't be surprised if she'd bolted.

I thought there might be an orange and black lining to the series with Utah in a couple weeks in that if we sweep them we would have 10 conference wins which Berg has never accomplished and maybe secure a spot in the field of 64 but after seeing Utah run rule UCLA 8-0 today that might be a pipe dream.

Lastly, there was a thread recently where I talked about Berg's mediocrity over her 10 years at OSU and someone pointed out that she'd been to the tourney in a number of those years. Half to be exact, I think 😄 but when I thought about it further I realized that never having more than 9 conference wins and making the tournament in 5 of her 10 year tenure only means other teams were down.

I would love to see her succeed but as the years go by I become less and less convinced that her and pitching coach Marcie Green can 'coach up' and develop players.

My heart aches for the team. Hopefully their bye week coming up will give 'em a chance to regroup.
