Has made several spectacular plays at 3rd base. Those plays are usually bare handed throws on short slow hit grounders, but I don't recall him making plays on hard hit balls. In fact I can recall several times that he failed to make plays on grounders hit hard at him. He had a couple of other balls today that he had trouble with and a bad throw on a slow grounder that Forrester saved his bacon. I don't know if that is the best decision to keep him at 3rd. If he was hitting I would feel better about it.

Over the last 3 games, Dukart and Dernedde have both had 3 hits and are around .300 for the small, but relevant period. Each had a hit today, which is very decent with only 6 hits total. There are a few bad slumps right now, but Dukart is at least decent.

So Dukart has three triples. That means he has both power and speed. I like that ability and I think he’ll pick his average up eventually.
I think folks are overreacting based on today’s game. Dukart is fine.

Dukart is 9 for 25 in his last 8 games and was very much being considered at SS so feel pretty good that he can handle hard hit balls....

With 20-20 hindsight, the Beavs missed some opportunities today. 1. You don't begin the game with "small ball" in yor thinking but you are on the road in a spacious ball park. We had Melton on first with Boyd at bat, a SBA would have 1). tested the Utah pitcher and catcher 2). If successful, Melton is in scoring position for Boyd, if not 3). Boyd leads off the second inning. My hinking - too early to run but the opportunity was there. 2. Second inning, Forrester opens with a single, Logan doesn't sacrifice and flys out. Wheeler hits a ball back to the pitcher who forces Forrester at second. Dukart hits a sharp single that would likely have scored Forrester had Logan bunted (maybe Logan can't bunt). Dernedde fanned. 3. Fifth inning, we advanced Dernede to 3B with Melton at bat and 2 out. Right guy up there to RBI. GO 3u. 4. Seventh inning, Meckler is walked with 2 outs and Bazzana at bat. No SBA. 5. Down 2-1, we load the bases in the 8th. Logan, who is inclined to hit the ball sharply to his pull side (lots of 4-3 and 3U putouts) is allowed to swing away when pushing a bunt hard in the alleys might have scored the speedy Boyd who was taking a good walking lead from third. The 1-2-3 DP killed the threat. Why then was Fuchs pinch hit for Wheeler with Forrester at 3B?
Scoring opportunities were scarce but there were a few that presented themselves that weny for naught.

Gretler or Dukart? For me its whoever is better "D" I also like Trotsky at 2nd. Buzz needs to sit a game and get reorientated.

And, "who's hitting well" is 20/20 hindsight. They've all had their moments. None are consistent. Gretler gives some pop, better D. I'd hang my hat on him using the others in PH/bunt situations.

Gret has an extra HR, but none of the triples that Duke has. And Gret's batting average is below Dernedde's. And Duke has 50 points on Gret for OBP. So if you want to trade off production for fielding, then you can't complain about Dernedde at short, it seems to me. If you want production, Dukart is going to be more reliable than Gretler. I like them both and think they'd be fine at 3b. I just hate seeing the world come down hard on Dukart for a rare mistake.
