Oregon State has been playing three-game weekend series against Utah since 2012. Only once in the past decade has Utah won the first game, a one-run win at Smith's Ballpark back in 2018. In 2018, Oregon State blew a sixth-inning lead with the winning run scored in the seventh. In 2022, Oregon State blew a seventh-inning lead with the winning run scored in the seventh.
The Beavers won the series in Utah in 2012 and 2016, lost in 2018. 2014 was a sweep. The only other time that Oregon State lost a game against Utah this century was in the Saturday game at home in 2021. Oregon State's only other loss to Utah was back in 1993 in the Spartan Classic in San Jose.
Oregon State went 9-4 against the remaining opponents in 2018. Oregon State would have to go 12-1 to surpass 2018's overall record.
I am always curious about Pac-9 (the Pac-10 before Oregon and then Utah joined) record. Oregon State went 16-7 against the Pac-9 in 2006, the UCLA game rained out. Oregon State went 16-7-1 against the Pac-9 in 2018, the Washington State game lightninged out in a tie. Right now, Oregon State is 13-5 against the Pac-9, which is a half game up on 2018 and a full game up on 2006.
Oregon State ends the regular season against UCLA. The last four times that Oregon State ended the regular season against UCLA since 2004 are 2006, 2007, 2016 and 2018. Each time that Oregon State was invited to the Tournament after ending the regular season by playing UCLA, the Beavers have won the National Championship. Interestingly, 2016 was the only sweep. Oregon State went 1-1 in 2006 and 2-1 in both 2007 and 2018.

Wasn't the 2016 ucla series a complete three game shutout for the Beavs? How often has that ever happened against any team?

Wasn't the 2016 ucla series a complete three game shutout for the Beavs? How often has that ever happened against any team? Yep... OSU (33-21) 1-0, 3-0, 6-0 vs a bad year for UCLA (25-31). UCLA did out hit OSU 18-17 in the series. OSU's staff 2 BB, 17 Ks... UCLA 8 BB, 14 K Very weird series between two teams going no where!

Wasn't the 2016 ucla series a complete three game shutout for the Beavs? How often has that ever happened against any team? As far as I can tell, that is the only time that Oregon State posted a complete three-game shutout. Oregon State allowed one run to Arizona State in a three-game series at Phoenix Municipal in 2017. The lone run came on a two-out Bryce Fehmel wild pitch in the seventh inning of a 9-0 ballgame. Oregon State ultimately won the game 10-1. Oregon State last won three shutout games against the same opponent in 2014 against Northern Illinois. In game one, Ben Wetzler and Chandler Eden combined for a one-hitter. In game two, Jace Fry threw a no-hitter (gave up fifth- and ninth-inning walks). In game three, Scott Schultz gave up two runs, one earned in a complete game five-hitter. In game four, five pitchers gave up four hits in a shutout. The game before the games against Northern Illinois was a combined two-hit shutout by Jake Thompson and Trent Shelton. Oregon State shutout Rice in consecutive games in the 2006 College World Series, which I believe is the last time that the Beavers played more than a game and shutout an opponent on a season before 2016. Oregon State only allowed one run in a series at Goss against Stanford in 2006. The Cardinal scored on a two-out walk, stolen base and double by Michael Taylor. The Beavers won 12-1. Oregon State also shutout Stanford in game two of the Corvallis Super Regional for three shutouts in five games.

In 2012, Oregon State won the opener 11-10 and lost game two 4-3 before rebounding to win the rubber game 5-4. In 2018, Oregon State lost the opener by a run and rebounded to win by scoring nine runs in game two before losing the rubber game 11-8. 2022, so far, has been more like 2018 than 2012. Oregon State went 8-4 against the remaining opponents in 2018. The Beavers would have to go 11-1 to surpass 2018's overall record. Oregon State is a half game back of 2018's pace with regards to the Pac-9. That is because Oregon State lost game three in Pullman rather than tying after 11 in 2018. Oregon State is two games back of 2018's pace with regards to non-conference play, because of the losses to Grand Canyon and Gonzaga. 2022 Oregon State cannot catch up in non-conference play. The Beavers would have to win more conference games to catch up.

Oregon State outscored Utah 13-4, which is exactly the same aggregate score as the 2013 sweep in Corvallis. Oregon State went 8-3 against the remaining opponents in 2018. The Beavers would have to go 10-1 to surpass 2018's overall record to make up for the losses to Grand Canyon and Gonzaga. In 2009, Oregon brought back baseball. Oregon and Oregon State started to square off in two midweek games beginning in 2010. Oregon State won the opener in 2011 but lost game two. Oregon State won the opener in Eugene in 2012 but lost game two. Oregon State won the opener in Eugene in 2014 but lost game two. Oregon State won the opener in 2015 but lost game two. Oregon State won the opener in Eugene in 2016 but lost game two. Oregon State won the opener in Eugene in 2018, a 4-3 win, and game two, as well, 10-0. Oregon State won the opener in 2019 but lost game two. Oregon State did not play Oregon midweek in 2020 or 2021. For those playing along at home, Oregon State went 1-1 in midweek games against Oregon every year from 2010-2019, except for three. Those three are 2013 (game two rained out), 2017 (game one rained out) and 2018 (Oregon State won both). Those happen to be the three times that Oregon State went to the College World Series in the past 13 years.
