Trosky at 3rd. Move Dernedde up in the lineup to the 2 hole and string out the bigger bats down the lineup. No, Dernedde belongs at the bottom of the order. Your best hitter belongs in the 2 hole. Exactly, we don't need to give extra at bats to a guy barely clearing .200

I think Dernedde handles the bat well. I like him in the 2 hole to move guys around and get on base instead of no one on free swinging in the 9 hole. Think of Andy Peterson. Always gets Meckler into scoring position without sacrificing the bat of Bazzana. Extends the lineup instead of having a guaranteed 3 up 3 down like we do now. The leadoff guy gets on. Two hole gets him over. The 3 hole drives him in. 4 hole goes yard. Thats old school baseball.

I like Dernedde and think that surrounding him with hitters might help get him better pitches, but that’s not going to be the case until he shows he can do something with the ball. We are better team with Dernedde in the field but not necessarily so when he’s batting…yet. He shows sparks, and it may come together for him some day, but not right now.

The only possible substitute for Duke at this point is Gretler, I think. But you lose on offense, and I don’t think you gain a lot on defense. No, Duke is our guy at third for the time being. So he couldn’t grab the possible double play ball, but…damn…the Beavers were just jinxed that inning.
Not scoring more than one run is really unacceptable. Offense fell into a spell. No stolen bases? Where the aggressive mindset?
Tomorrow, we’ll come out swinging.

So the big question is who will start Sunday's game. Will Ferrer be back to start Sunday or used as backup? I sure would like to see him pitching Sunday, even if it is for fewer innings that he might otherwise throw.

Sox's last start was a 9 inning 2 ER Win at SC so he's finding a way to be highly effective as of late.
T.J. regaining his early season form will be a huge boost to the lineup.
I'm not sure at this point if it's the eye not fully healed or the lost time/reps during rehab coupled with a confidence issue. Laying around for a couple weeks pondering if your eye will ever be the same again for a hitter is a brutal spot to rebound from, but he needs to work his ass off to get through it and write a new chapter. I have no doubt he will rebound and become the critical missing piece to the lineup in the coming days.

A couple of topic responses:
- OSU has no serious lineup upgrade options. The only "change" is for them to perform;
- Sunday? How about Saturday? Kmatz has been very good, but he doesn't have the swing and miss stuff of Cooper. Utah consistently put the ball in play. I'm guessing that will continue and they'll have more hits that fall. Scoring (1) isn't going to win you many Pac12 or post season games.
ALL hands on deck tomorrow to get a W before considering Sunday's late game.

Yeah....lots of missed opportunities and no timely hits when we needed them. One run won’t win many games.....our pitching was good but our bats weren’t.....that gdp by Logan was brutal and sort of took the wind out of our sails

From the feel of that game I sure would have bunted and tried to score the tying run. We gave up Donkey who all day was really hitting the ball to move the runners. That made sense. But clutch hits have been hard to come by. I try like hell to get that run.

Bases loaded, no outs, score zero runs......ballgame. But that's baseball.....9 times out of 10 we at least tie, and prolly take the lead there.

But clutch hits have been hard to come by. I try like hell to get that run. Would rather have Logan just knock it out of the infield. Sac fly. Surely, it can’t be that hard. I don’t think a bunt eliminates the double play possibility. And I’m not certain of Logan’s ability to put down a perfect bunt. I think their pitcher just won that matchup in just about the best possible way. It’s baseball. Don’t forget that we had other opportunities to score in the game. We just didn’t.
