i am thinking of installing solar panels along with a battery backup so I can run if the grid is down. I know I likely won't be able to run 'everything' if I have a single battery but some seems much better than none. If you have personal experience doing this I'd like to hear how it has worked out so far. 26% fed tax credit seems quite a good incentive I just did taxes and claimed my 26% Federal Tax Credit. Only a $1,000.00 Arizona Tax Credit, which stinks, but what're you going to do? The whole thing more than pays for itself in my Southeast facing house. And hopefully will be even more helpful after I add my pool. I am getting money back from the energy company right now and paying less on the lease than I was on power before. And it will all be profit after I pay off the lease.

I had two glitches that my installation company just covered so far that I know would have been a headache otherwise.

Plus... end of lease (or during depending on lease) outdated equipment is their issue. They'll want you to hang and upgrade.

Getting a solar array installed today. Crew is getting after it. Went with a lease plan. I live in Southern Oregon and have excellent exposure to the south. Can't really see how it's not going to work well for our location.

The numbers for buying it and having it installed didn't pencil out for me.
The guys selling me on the system TRIED to show me that it would pencil out, but failed to add the interest costs to their model, which kind of soured me on their sales pitch. (I don't use a ton of kwh, my oven, heat, and water are all gas).
IF electricity costs went up at least 4% annually, I might break even, but yeah, after 25 years, I'd have 25-year-old panels that would likely need to be replaced.
If you need a new roof, it can be a good investment. Right now, if I were to do it as a purchase, it would be more of an attempt to make a "green" choice, rather than making a sound financial decision.

They all want you to buy as then you are responsible for all the upkeep/repair costs. It is sort of like a auto dealer. They make far more on service than sales. On a lease it's still their equipment, their costs to upkeep.

It can also be a good investment, if you are nearing the end of your roof's warranty period or your roof's warranty has already expired, if you have around a plus or minus 10-year-old roof. Peace of mind, if nothing else. They are projecting a 14.3% power rate increase for most residential users in the upcoming year alone, so I do not know that 4% over 25 years is that far off. The electricity infrastructure in Oregon is........dated to say the least.

I admire you folks who go solar and wind. I honestly do. If I could “go rain…….” after this friggin spring…… I’d never have to pay for power AGAIN. DAMN.

Willamette valley. Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain……honestly, if EVERY spring resembled this…. my wife and I would sell when I retire next year and move to dryer climes. Three kiddos and five grand kiddos and my elderly mom are ALL that keep us from relocating. “All that keep us…….” Lol! The most important things in LIFE, in other words.

Not solar, but wind. Ive now been in Portugal, France and Spain for a month. And holy sh!t, there are a lot of windmills. I need to look up the percentage of power generated by wind here (or just have wiki do it for me). It's rare not to see a flock of them any time you are out of a city.

"What is the wind power capacity in Portugal? Wind power is a major source of electricity in Portugal. At the end of 2020, wind power capacity in Continental Portugal was 5,456 MW. In 2020, wind power represented 23.7% of total electricity generation. The record of wind power generation was achieved on November 22, 2019 with 103.1 GWh produced" Spain... 21.9% "With 27,446 MW of accumulated capacity, wind energy has been the second source of electrical generation in the peninsula in Spain in 2020. Spain is the fifth country in the world in terms of installed wind power after China, the US, Germany and India."
