I was kind of surprised to see Beavers were still recruiting high school players for 2022 class given that the class already has 5 in it. Figured WT would look to transfers for the last two spots. I have a feeling their interest in him might be because of the Reveno hiring. Kid is from North Carolina and played his final HS year at Hargrave Military Academy. I noticed when Reveno was hired that Ga Tech has recruited prep schools pretty well, including Hargrave from where they nabbed a 2021 recruit. Thinking the interest now in Gray might be a result of a Reveno relationship.
I’ve seen him listed both at 6-6 and 6-8 (so maybe closer to the former or he’s still growing). Not highly rated by the recruiting services, but in short highlight video I watched he looked pretty dang good to me. His current offers are from mid-major or lower teams, but in addition to the Beavers’ late interest he’s been hearing from SMU, Colorado State, Northwestern, Seton Hall, Mississippi State, Kansas State. I think this kid legitimately qualifies as a late bloomer and might be a good get if they reel him in. Below is a paragraph I found that appeared on a website called phenomhoopreprt.com that I ran across from Feb 2022.
6’8 2022 Elijah Gray (Hargrave)
The North Carolina native once again showed why he is one of the most versatile, skilled and sought after forwards in the 2022 class. Gray finished with a game-high 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists in their win over Combine Academy Post Grad. He continues to have an outstanding season at Hargrave. He has the size and skillset that translates at the next level. He can score the ball efficiently at all three levels. He can take smaller defenders on the block and he can step out on the perimeter, knock down the three-point shot or make plays off the bounce. More importantly, he was playing with a greater sense of urgency and consistently played with a motor all game long. Gray currently holds offers from UNCW, ETSU, Radford, Murray State, Charlotte, Old Dominion, Tulsa, ECU, Cleveland State, USC Upstate and Elon.
