Thanks for the reminder, but I was busy and forgot all about it. Highlights? Game can still be viewed on YT. There’s some tremendous athletes, Johnson going to LSU took over the game and probably could have gone for 40 if she played the whole game. Not sure how’s she’s only the # 6 player. I’m surprised Times was mvp - she didn’t play that well, rushed some shots. But she was playing the most team ball, offering on-ball picks and rolling off them to get some movement. Most of the scoring came in at individual plays and many are up to that of this group. Reagan looked good - missed a couple of 3s but looked like she can shoot them. Did well on the boards. I’ve said this before, but I just can’t see either of them not starting next year even if nobody transferred, they are simply too athletic and lack holes in their game that could keep them off the floor. Betts on the other hand, the #1 prospect, struggles with the physicality of these games and likely will have some adjustment time. UCLA is going to be fun to watch - 3 very good perimeter players arriving.

I keep hearing less than sterling reviews on Betts. Good thing Stanford really doesn't need much from her right away. With Jones, Brink, Belibi, Prechtel and Iriafen already there, she's gonna have a hard time finding any minutes next year, unless she's really good.

Exciting young talent, for sure.

Well, she’s very good and is a presence on the defensive and rebounding end, so she will get her chance. She just has the burdens of being the number 1 prospect, and was clearly not the best player in the court in todays game. Whenever she went up against Oldacre — who is really physical — she had no answers. She would get pushed out beyond 12 feet posting up every time it seemed. I saw enough of that happen to our posts the last few years (who are a lot stronger than she is now I suspect) to believe teams will do the same to her next year in the Pac.

I thought both of them looked good. Unfortunately, I can't get as excited about incoming recruits as I used to. Not too long ago when a new player came into the program, I kind assumed I would be able to watch them play and develop for the next 4 seasons. They didn't always stay 4 years, but most of them did. The way things are tending a player staying their entire career at one school is becoming the exception.

I consider Rice as the best player in the nation (and that is not a knock on Betts, whom I do like). You wonder how minutes will go with UCLA and where Onu will fit in. I think she should go ahead and transfer out and join the Beavs If you think both Beers and Gardiner should start, how does that look? Is that Beers at 5 and Gardiner at 4, or Beers at 4 and Gardiner at 3? I'm curious what fans are thinking?

I'd like to see Beers at 4 and Gardiner at 3 if they can handle it against Pac-12 competition. The way Jelena was improving in the last part of the season, I'd like to see her as the starting center (I'm assuming that her improvement wasn't just because of lower level WNIT competition). Jelena showed some great moves with that little hook she has and, in one of those last games, that spin to the basket. We will still need Beers to be able to play at the 5 as well as the 4... and Gardiner to be able to play at the 4. We will also need a go-to smaller line up when the matchups demand it. I think A.J. is going to continue to improve and get a lot of minutes; I think she's the most athletic player we have. Honestly, I think next years team has the potential to be better than 21-22 as long as we bring in a capable PG. I think that, by the time of the Pac-12 season, our front-line will be an upgrade, especially offensively. Depth will, of course, be a concern if we can't bring in some other Pac-12 quality players besides a PG.

Is that Beers at 5 and Gardiner at 4, or Beers at 4 and Gardiner at 3? I'm curious what fans are thinking? Hard to say yet, as I assume a lot more coming to the roster. But right now I could see a a lineup of Jelena, AJ and TvO with Beers and Gardiner, putting Gardiner at the 3 and Beers at the 4. It’s would be a really big lineup that I think only teams like UCLA could badly exploit with speed. Gardiner is a good ball handler so she could be used like Taya was at times to bring the ball up against a press, as she likely won’t be guarded by a quicker athlete - as Taya often wasn’t either. Beers has food vision and is a good passer, so she fits well as a 4, but so is Gardiner. Both can hit mid-range shots as well so they will pit a lot of pressure on defenses receiving the ball at the high post. I can see them taking their defenders to the rim and dropping the ball over the to to Jelena in any rotating defenders as well. It was fun to watch them play together even in an All-Star game that really doesn’t fit their game as well as a structured offense will where players are planned to be in specific places and mismatch creations are by design. For a team like UCLA, I see Beers moving to the 5 and Gardiner to the 4, as Jelena is the one that’s hard to hide defensively in that matchup, while sliding the two freshman to the 4-5 makes for still a bigger lineup that has plenty of speed. Of course our perimeter defense is a big problem there unless we find that - our two frosh guards coming by in don’t appear to help with our perimeter defense, but we may be pleasantly surprised.

We REALLY NEED SERIOUS STRENGTH IN THE BACK COURT IF We PLAY 2 guards. Have you ever had spell check change the meaning of your words on you and you missed it.
