Let's just wait and see.......some more. I could see RS, but if we can make a run, and he can be an integral part of that run, seems like a no-brainer.....that's assuming he's firing on all cylinders.

Even if Pfennings is only up to 3 innings, I'd' much rather see a Sunday of Pfennings / Lattery (or Lattery / Pfennings) for the first 7 innings, than the current Lattery 5 innings / the usual suspects in 6th & 7th. 8th and 9th can be Sebby/Brown/Ferrer depending on who had to pitch, and how much, on Fri / Sat.

Was there some kind of announcement that he will not be pitching in the next 10 days?

Not sure an RS would work. He will be draft eligible anyway and was well thought of out of high school as a prospect. Drafted out of high school and probably will get drafted again if he gets healthy

D1 Baseball Chat today....not ideal
Kendall Rogers: The latest intel I’ve received suggests that it would be a surprise to see Pfennigs back in the weekend rotation, but we will see. Not having Jake or Will in that rotation the rest of the year would be brutal for the Beavers. We will see how things shake out, though.

We’d be able to give more guys rest. But it seems to me that Omaha is where heroes are made, a la Abel. I still like our chances, even without Pfennigs. We all know that if Carpenter can take that next step or if Lattery keeps developing like he is, we’re going to be OK. These kids have talent.

Against Stanford, the majority of Carpenter’s pitches were not fastballs. Against USC, the majority were fastballs. Is slider is coming along fine, and I swear he added a curve and a change against Stanford.

In a Nutshell: Carpenter is 6-8, has great extension, a high 3/4 arm slot and an angle to the plate that is probably somewhere in the neiborhood of 4.5 to 5 feet of vertical drop to a hitters knees. hAdd in the velo - he touched 97-98 at ACCC last year and threw a couple at 97 v USC. He can coast at 94-95.
Nobody wants any of that.
Command is the issue and location is the missing piece. He is throwing too many balls, gets behind, has to come in and gets hit. To put it bluntly, he has the tools but needs to slow down between pitches and really think about what the hell he is doing. I see signs of a Robotic "thrower" - time to establish a nice rhythm to his work and start being a pitcher.
He needs 3 things coming out of the pen - his blow-torch, a functional slider and command. That's it, game over.
