For Beaver baseball fans that see a potential sweep of USC, be aware of one thing:

It rarely happens against the Trojans. We last swept them in 2013.(They last swept us in 2008)

I remember listening to that series win in LA in '04 (no TV that I can recall) and it being a kind of a breakthrough. Buck, Gunderson and Nickerson were all freshmen. Beavs lost game 1 against Ian Kennedy. Won game 2 with Buck and save by Gunderson. Won the rubber game 8-4 with Nickerson WP and save again by Gunderson. A harbinger of big things to come in '05 and 06 - and beyond.

SC is a good squad this year. I’d think winning series would be great. Beavs really do need a series win.

Oregon State's first series win against USC since the 1952 College World Series team and first ever conference series win in Los Angeles.

USC was 8-1 all-time against Oregon State at Bovard (USC's home field before Dedeaux) and 9-2 all-time against Oregon State at Dedeaux. USC was thus 17-3 all-time against Oregon State in Los Angeles. (I would note that the media guide lists the Pac-8 Tournament game between Oregon State and USC as a neutral site game, when it was a road game at Bovard against USC.)

UCLA was 5-0 all-time against Oregon State at Sawtelle (UCLA's home field before Jackie Robinson was completed), 1-0 at Bovard (Pac-8 Tournament) and 6-3 at Jackie Robinson. UCLA was 12-3 all-time against Oregon State.

The two LA schools were 29-6 all-time against Oregon State. USC's first game victory over Oregon State ran the LA schools' record to 30-6 in Los Angeles against Oregon State.

In game two against USC, Dallas Buck was masterful through eight innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits before giving up a walk and double in the ninth to put the game in doubt. Fortunately, Kevin Gunderson came in to strikeout the final batter to strand the tying run on second. It was Gunderson's first ever conference save.

In the rubber game, the game was tied in the fifth 4-4. Mike Hass (no relation?), in his sole season at Oregon State, hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a Cole Gillespie groundout and then scored on a wild pitch. Mike Lissman hit for Hass in the seventh and led off with a walk. Gillespie bunted Lissman over and Shea McFeely brought Lissman home. Gunderson then took over and shut down USC over the final three innings. Jacoby Ellsbury drove home McFeely in the ninth on a groundout and Tyler Graham brought home Chris Kunda on a base hit to make the final 8-4.

According to this, the 1963 NCAA regional series won by the ultimate national champs USC 2-1, was played in Corvallis.
