The last time that Stanford won a series at Goss? 2010. The Cardinal swept the Beavers. The game was right after a series loss to UCLA at Goss and a series loss in Pullman. Oregon State lost two straight to UCLA, three straight to Stanford and three straight to Wazzu, seven straight. Seven straight losses is the Beavers' longest losing streak since 2004.
Last weekend was the seventh weekend of the year. The last time that Oregon State lost the seventh weekend of the year? 2018. Oregon State lost the seventh weekend of the year against Utah.
In game one, Oregon State led 6-4 in the sixth but Gambrell, Eisert and Pearce all gave up doubles and runs to put Oregon State in an 8-6 hole. In the ninth, Grenier was hit by a pitch, and Rutschman doubled. Larnach struck out on a called third strike on pitch 13. Tyler Malone was pulled for Preston Jones. Grenier scored on a wild pitch to pull Oregon State to 8-7, but Jones flew out to right with Rutschman still sitting on third. 8-7 Utah.
Oregon State overcame a 5-2 seventh inning deficit to win 9-5 in game two. Rutschman hit a two-run single, Malone hit a three-run double and Gretler hit a sac fly to score Malone. Then, Andy Armstrong homered to left.
In game three, Oregon State led 1-0 on a Rutschman double to score Grenier. The Utes outscored the Beavers 5-1 in the second, third and fourth to post a 5-2 lead, though. Oregon State would pull within one and then two, but Utah went up 11-5 in the eighth. The Beavers added three window dressing runs with two outs in the ninth but went down 11-8. That was Bryce Fehmel's lone loss of the year and only one of two games that Fehmel pitched that Oregon State lost (the other was the Saturday game against Arizona State).
The time before that Oregon State suffered its first losing weekend during week seven? 2013. The Beavers only suffered one other losing weekend on the year en route to Omaha.
2005, 2007 and 2017 all started better. But those are the only three seasons in the past 17 years, in which Oregon State still had not lost a series to this point in the season. 2014 Oregon State lost the home opener to Arizona State. 2006 Oregon State had already lost two weekend series and split a third at this point in the season.
Oregon State just needs to refocus on the rest of the season. The Beavers are probably a National Seed with 42+ wins. They just need to hit that mark
