Day 1 was a little more exciting, but a few good performances for the team. It makes me miss having a men's team, but the women are getting to be competitive in many ways. I don't think all the Beav athletes were there (or maybe I just didn't see their performances).
It appears that the meet organizers might have used the incorrect pit for the women triple jumpers because 8 of the 20 competitors fouled all three initial jumps. The minimum jump distance was about 36 feet (about 11 meters) before the sand pit was reached. This was not an "elite" meet, so there was no reason to eliminate 40% of the competition like that. Hope it was just an oversight.
Makayla Pivec's sister, Malia, won the 3000 meter steeplechase Invite - I think it was a UO record.
