What did MC say about losing late? Ugh. What a waste. Hard not to see it as a spoiled outing for Hjerpe. Poor guy. But what an outing it was! Sure the Stanford pitcher also kept us from scoring, but the discrepancy between his half of the innings and Hjerpe’s was incredible! Stanford was out there a long time, but Hjerpe came out, threw strikes, and shut them down. It was really amazing to watch. Hjerpe sent notice to the league. He’s for real. |

Initial disappointment led me to agree....("spoiled outing"). After sleeping on it takes a more positive hue. As a fan, I root for (and enjoy) both individual performance and team performance. On the first count, this was one of the best ever, going back to my band-wagon joining year of 2005. I'll savor that. Last weekend the Beavers, in this relatively young PAC-12 season, faced their first 'rubber game'. They responded well with 8-runs in the 7th thru 9th innings. Now, beginning in a few hours they face their FIRST "gotta win Game 2, or lose the series" challenge. And in a (day (I hope not !) or a week....or 3 weeks...or ??, they just might face the "gotta Win or be swept" challenge. |
