Can't help but wonder out loud if this is service time manipulation. Maybe it is a little tender but maybe the doc could go either way and the team leans conservative because if they prevent him from getting a full service year, it is good for them. The new CBA has some prevention for this but it didn't get addressed fully.
Maybe I'm just overly wary based on what the Cubs did with Bryant a few years ago and what the dumb Mariners GM said the quiet part out loud to the Rotary club. I don't have a lot of faith in teams though to start the clock when they should when they are looking at dollars down the road.
