They controlled both games..They are a good team but if we are #4 or so in the country...we should have dominated... It's early Baseball is a game of streaks Baseball is a fickle game Go Beavs You’re going to have some bad games and the pitching is a concern, but this is why people shouldn’t post stupid computer simulations that show that we are going 56-4. Pitching was supposed to be our strength coming into the season....so far...1 starter down for the season..another TBD...makes it a bit more of a crap shoot... but hey get hot at the right time is what it is all about... Maybe starting pitching was supposed to be a strength. The bullpen was always a concern. And your most seasoned guy, Verburg, hasn’t been great. The bullpen is a huge factor going forward. |

Just my opinion. Current the staff gets a "C" at best. Now the question is will it get better and can a team that may hit 325 overcome "C" Pitching.

Maybe starting pitching was supposed to be a strength. The bullpen was always a concern. And your most seasoned guy, Verburg, hasn’t been great. The bullpen is a huge factor going forward. And, even the slated three staters were unproven. They had 17 decisions between them. One came on late but was mostly used in relief. Highly touted, big potential means zero really. Verburg should have been the "sure thing", and later he might be?! This team was, and will, "live and die", with it's offense. If the staff can keep us in games OSU will outscore most teams. There will be off days on both sides, but this team is not dominant on the hill (not yet at least). So the D will need to keep playing at a high level and the bats need to stay consistent thru the lineup. I still think Furd is the best team. After that there are a few teams that could pop into the 2-4 spots. Finishing top 3 when you have a 8 team tourney to end the year is important. Although I'm not sure I'm a fan of said tourney. I'm attending of course, but pitching wise it may be a negative to some teams. ASU next. They've been up & down. Going 2-1 or sweep is a must have. Getting them early is a plus to me as I see Bloomquist a huge upgrade. Later in the year they could make big strides. |

We knew we were gonna get some better hitting teams. GCU is one of em. Plenty more to come. Hopefully it's just a blip and our pitching depth proves to be better than they've shown the last three games.

Getting Pfennigs back would help, at least a bit…. Getting staff in more order.
We are used to guys stepping up when others go down….
Now, we’re getting shelled.

The Beavers listed 23 pitchers on their official roster prior to the Surprise trip. Three of those names are now lost for the season - Frisch, Mundt and Nelson. Frisch is an experienced starter, Mundt an experienced reliever, and Nelson is a freshman. Pfennigs missed a start v Cal-Irvine (pulled after 1 inning), WSU and probably ASU this weekend. Two touted relievers are MIA - Boisvert and Stuhr. Three freshman are in their early developmental stage - Case, Quinn and Grewe. Cope is no longer with the team.
Instead of 23, Dorman now finds himself working with 14 pitchers including Pfennigs. Dorman is having to decide quickly who else fits, if any to his group of 8 (IMHO) we are likey see throw in the PAC-12 weekend series in 2022.
