Fine, you guys win. Stanford is an easy school to get into. You good at sports, you come play here, no problem. Just like the SEC. No, doing 5-10 in state prison gets you into the SEC.

Much can change over 3 years of a teenager's life, and much can change in the basketball world - Tara could announce her retirement, for example.
Don't write her off to Stanford just yet.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was going for. To pretend there are "admissions standards" for athletes at some schools is an absolute joke. Getting into Stanford, even if you are a really good athlete, is not the same as getting into some other schools.

I don't think Stanford can actually offer anyone this early in their academic career. They can certainly let it be known they are interested. But my understanding is they can't officially offer until the recruit has cleared admissions, and obviously a Fr. can't do that. Incorrect. An offer is just a verbal thing. There are no official considerations. Most coaches, however, will talk to the HS coach and get a sense of things including academic performance. Via the NCAA eligibility center programs can request transcripts if they want but they usually don't start doing that until it starts to matter Junior year. Once the athlete signs (usually Nov Sr. year) they then apply/enroll in the school and go through all those steps.

However, those athletes are still probably excellent students.

They take into consideration lots of things. Good at basketball is one of them.
