Continuing the OSU class rankings - Tonight we look at the ten commits in the 2024 recruiting class. These guys are playing their Sophomore seasons this spring and their rankings will fluctuate (some wildly) as they play their high school and travel ball seasons.

RHP Zach Edwards, Riverton, UT. HS Rawlings-Perfect Game ranks him #31 on the National 500, and # 1 in Utah. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 22 Nationally, and # 1 in Utah. His rankings range is #18 to #31.RHP

Jake McKowan, Fair Oaks, CA. - Del Campo HS. Rawlings-Perfect Game ranks him # 37 on the National-500 and # 6 in California. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 88 Nationally and # 14 in California. His rankings range is # 33 to # 88.ZRHP

Zachary Swanson, Castle Rock, WA. - Toutle Lake HS. Rawlings-Perfect Game ranks him # 45 on the National 500 and # 1 inn Washington. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 116 Nationally and # 2 in Washington. Baseball Northwest ranks him #1 in Washington. His rankings range is #43 to #116.RHP

Noah Sorenson, Poulsbo, WA. - North Kitsap HS. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 7 in Washington. Baseball Northwest ranks him # 5 in Washington. Unranked Nationally - he hasn't played outside the state of Washington.

C Ryan Vandenbrink, West Linn, OR. HS. Rawlings-Perfect Game ranks him #192 Nationally and #1 in Oregon. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 374 Nationally and # 2 in Oregon. Baseball Northwest ranks him # 4 in Oregon. His rankings range is #178-# 374.

OF Hustyn Wheeler, Phoenix, AZ. - Sandra Day O'Connor HS. Rawlings-Perfect Game ranks him # 256 on the National 500 and # 3 in Arizona. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 142 Nationally and # 5 in Arizona. His ranking range is #114-256

IF Connor Barth, Roseville, CA. - Woodcreek HS. Rawlings-Perfect game ranks him # 283 on the National 500 and # 36 in California. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 313 Nationally and # 81 in California. His ranking range is #249 to # 313.

IF Paul Vasquez, West Covina, CA. - South Hills HS. Rawlings-Perfect Game ranks him #305 on the National 500 and # 39 in California. Prep Baseball Report ranks him # 204 Nationally and # 32 in California. His rankings range is # 196-# 306.

IF Kenji Colston, Sacramento, CA. - Jesuit HS. Rawlings-Perfect Game ranks him # 457 on the National 500 and ranks him # 67 in California. Prep Baseball Report ranks him 424 Nationally and # 87 in California. His ranking range is # 417 to # 457.

It seems Mitch is recruiting players that are highly ranked and may go straight to pro ball. I thought Casey avoided those players and stuck with players he knew were interested in college ball. Not really a complaint either way, just something I noticed.

What are the chances those top 3 make it to Corvallis?

Hopefully, since he's played in and won 2 CWS, coached and played in the minors, Mitch has a solid pitch selling college ball for three years as opposed to riding a bus everyday while you are further developing your skills. But, if you're that good, a huge signing bonus probably trumps everything I said. Just my 2 Cents. MB.

But, it's the same for every school?!

A full scholly isn't going to dissuade a high draft pick/slot in most cases.

Yeah, although certain schools such as Stanford and Vandy do a better job in getting kids to campus due to the value of the degree plus the fact that most of their players get a full scholarship (due to the school's financial aid practices). Has Canham lost anyone to the MLB draft other than Dominic Hambley and Mick Abel? Based only on their rankings and the fact that MLB teams have been moving away from HS pitchers, I'm guessing the top 3 might be looking at a $1 million or so potential signing bonus.

I would add there are academic scholarship options and at private schools those can be a work around.

We now also have the NIL potential... With NIL and fewer Minor League teams I'm hoping we will see more kids choose the school route and we should see the quality of College Baseball follow on the up trend.
