What are the various opinions about our chances to beat ASU on Wednesday? Being the pessimistic sort that I am and viewing there last two dismal outings I would expect a loss by about 15 points.

I hope we get it done. I'd like to see more than one game of ours live this season. ASU also missing one player from the matchup earlier this year.

ASU is not very good and have lost 5 in a row. If the team can reboot psychologically and move on from the disappointment of how the regular season ended, I think they have a decent shot at winning. On paper it is a fairly even matchup.

On a different topic, am I correct that Coach Rueck has just about given up on playing person to person defense and mainly just plays zone defense.
If so, is he basically acknowledging the glaring lack of quickness that is becoming unfortunately a trade mark of his recent teams?

We lost by 10. We were down by 2 when the game was effectively over and the rest was ASU free throws.
So we were in that game even though we had 19 turnovers and shot 16% from three.
ASU is very beatable.

I wouldn't say he's given up. Against CO on Saturday I would say we were probably about 50/50 in amount of time man vs zone. However we have been more effective this year playing zone. Looking at things it's not really a quickness issue, it's a accuracy/mistake issue. Just mistakes off the ball resulting in layups or easy shots for the other team.

On one hand, I hope/think OSU can handle ASU. But, on the other I do not want to see us play Furd again!

wbosh,
Is in not correct to state that if you play zone defense, teams are going to get a lot of open 3 point attempts by passing the ball quickly to each other (assuming they are spaced properly).
Seemingly the comments I hear on this site over and over are about the "open 3 point shots" that are available to our opponents.

Oh it's a very correct. A good passing team should torch a zone d. However very few teams have 5 good passers and space the floor well. The Beavs on Saturday especially in the second half where giving up the shots they wanted to give up, they just didn't rebound well. Defensively we did what we needed to do to give ourselfs a chance in the second half Saturday, but we couldn't put the ball in the basket to save our lives.

Very difficult to win if we cannot defend the girl who scored thirty points on us the first time. She was such a load for us to defend and a tremandous scorer you no how they will design there offense. We must not allow uncontested shots from her and also anybody else. Tall order! I would shadow her the hole game with AJ. She is faster then taya. We don’t want taya fouling out. We need a person off the bench to give fouls away and just stick like glue to her. This game will be won on defense. Maybe platoon players in and just hound her all game!!!!

ASU has been struggling this season as well but CTT seems to have Rueck’s number over the past several seasons. I’m guessing it’s a 50-50 game, depending on who can make a few shots and take care of the ball. I don’t think the Beavs need to score 70 to win this one though, these games with ASU are usually akin to rugby scrums.
