It's been fun to see what Jade Carey can do in NCAA gymnastics, but really not all that unexpected that she's been so dominant. What's really cool is that she seems to thrive off of being part of the team and is really enjoying her time at OSU. What I find interesting (after following the program closely for over 20 years) is how much she is able to lift the other athletes. I think for many fans it's sometimes difficult to separate the individual part of the sport from the fact that it's really a team sport. The athletes often talk of getting momentum during a rotation when a teammate hits for a good score early on, etc. Obviously, Jade is an anchor (goes last) on all the events. But it's very clear that having as close as you can get to a surefire big score at the end of each event enables the others to compete with a higher comfort level and confidence (they also benefit from the stability of Madi Dagen and Kaitlyn Yanish}. That is particularly important for this team with so many freshmen. Beam and floor would be pretty strong events for the Beavers even without Carey, but bars is far better with her at anchor and teammates adding 10.0 start values. Vault is also in much better shape. Jade is a true superstar in the mode of a Michael Jordan.

Looking forward to Pac-12’s, Regionals and Nationals.
