He has quietly made an impact on this team without much fanfare. Some of the highlights from his Bio: OSU pitching staff led the Pac12 in 2021 with a 3.48 era..9th best era nationally. Beavers also set a season high record with 611 strikeouts. They averaged better than 10 per game..the only team in the pac12 to reach that mark. To me that says he develops pitchers, not just throwers.By that I mean we have guys who are learning to pitch rather than just over powering hitters with heat.Too many times you see a young guy who when he gets in a jam,he tries to throw harder, rather than trusting his secondary pitches to avoid big innings. I think that has been on display already this year. This pitching staff has been able to stay away for crooked number innings by relying on off speed pitches as well as fastballs.
Having a resume which includes years of experience pitching in the minors has served him well in his coaching career. He seems to have a good feel for when to make a mound visit to calm the situation down and to remind his battery how to go about getting outs. i also think with his background he can relate well to recruits who might be undecided as to whether or not to skip college ball and head straight to the minors. That's a valuable asset to help counsel recruits.
He seems to be a perfect compliment as to how Canham goes about his job. Low key,but focused on the goals and with the right blend of intensity and player development.

I would agree he is doing a very good job. I think the timing of his "in game" decisions have been great. I'd be very cautious though about declaring that this pitching staff has what it takes to get us to Omaha. Did not see a lot of swing and miss stuff from anyone other than our first two starters. No Eiserts, no Chamberlains on this staff in the bullpen.

I have to say i disagree. Last year it was brutal watching all of the pitchers with so many free passes. It seems like they pitch for the strikeout and to avoid contact. In years past we have pitched to weak contact and used our +defense.
Sure he has done some good things in terms of ERA. But Kevin Abel regressed and say what you want about Cooper. But idk if i have seen Dorman develop the dominant Friday night guy that we need to win.
Also, we have what, 2 lefties?? Not sure the way to win the world series is to throw big hard throwing righties. Which is basically what the SEC sees every week. In the past we have succeeded with unorthodox lefties. Wish we wouldnt get away from that.

If Cooper finds a real change-up we have the dominant Friday night guy.

If Cooper finds a real change-up we have the dominant Friday night guy. Well lets hope he does since this is, you know.. his last year.

Cooper already has an excellent change. Right now he is probably more concentrated on refining his "new" slider, which he didn't have until after the end of the 2021 season.

If the rumors and/or facts are true, Coach Dorman has a small but solvable challenge before him. He's lost a reliable middle reliever (Mundt), His Sunday starter is on the shelf for ? (Frisch), and his Saturday starter (Pfennigs) may be some kind of short term casualty. That's a lot to process 7 games in. Next man up!

If Frisch and Pfennings aren't available..........well I don't want to think about that. I've watched ARZ and Furd a bit. Their lineups are scary relative to what we've faced so far.
