I think the 5 bbs in the 1st game made Mr Forrester think he was the leadoff better. He reminds me of Frank Thomas who did not swing at hittable pitches that were just off the plate because they were not strikes. A little more aggressiveness will cure what ails him.

As long as they limit free passes to 3 per game those hits won't hurt as much. Also the guys behind the plate seem to be limiting extra bases vis the uncaught ball.

Not to be a Debbie-downer about last season as the Beavers were a few outs from advancing to a super regional, but I have seen few passed balls, few pitches going to the backstop, and few, just plain dropped balls by the catcher. Claunch injured his hand in the first game last season which is a factor and players were running at will against at least one pitcher, but, damned, I am encouraged by the catching position and that is really not competition level improvement. I was afraid of a drop-off at that position and that we would regret Claunch’s decision to leave the program. We’re gonna be fine.

Can anyone who followed the game comment on today’s pitching? Looks like the committee approach did pretty well. A couple of pitchers with a good number of Ks.

Solid pitching, gave up hits but spaced them around a lot of K's and just a few freebies. I said that at the start of the season that if we cut walks in half, and our own K's in half from last season, we'd be Omaha material, and so far, so good!

Josh is doing a good job for a rookie announcer, but he's discovering that there is a lot to do and talk about in even the most innocuous of innings

Last year, we couldn’t get the run support we needed from the hitters. This year, though, that seems ironed out. And the pitching staff looks fairly good so far. I’m really excited to see who develops into the next ace pitcher.
