We’re always wishing to get big name recruits to sign for the Beavers. I recently saw that a 5* had signed with a school who reportedly has some kind of baggage. I saw the following on a message board and it got me wondering. I have no idea to the validity of the statement nor what the red flags are.
“Massive, massive, red flags. Pretty sure XXXXX was the only school left that would take him. Even Memphis passed, and that's saying a lot.”
So is this a player you would like to see sign with the Beavers? And this is not meant in any way of cutting slack to WT for his poor recruiting record. Just curious.

Why not? We've taken 3* headcases.

Can’t give a real answer to that question because too many factors involved. But, as presented, I might. We have little to lose, and the young man may mature. Late teens/early twenties can be a rough time in a man’s life. But I’m not convinced WT is the guy to handle him.

We tried this previously with CJ Giles transferring from Kansas. Didn't work out so well.

We tried this previously with CJ Giles transferring from Kansas. Didn't work out so well. Plus you still actually have to coach them once here. That requires some respect for the coach. Can't see that type of kid looking at WT as someone he could respect as a coach. Unfortunately WT would be great as a role model for such a kid. In that situation he'd fit the bill as more of a lead assistant. However, WT could actually help himself by actually changing up his staff. Recruiter/mentor type and an new X's/O's guy to infuse new ideas.

Love Bill Walton, in small doses as an announcer but he seems like a head case to me. He was probably worth the trouble as a player. I would guess it depends on how disruptive the head case is. I would not want Kyrie Irving.

Why not? We've taken 3* headcases. Are you sure we haven't had some walk-on headcases?

I would not want Kyrie Irving. The difference is that Bill was not a head case on the floor. A weirdo off the court (as long as they don't get into too much trouble) is fine. The head cases that disrupt the team in practice and on the floor are the ones not worth taking.
