Lots of "discussion" about our first two opponents. To me it's not about who you play,it's about how you play.Players have no control over which teams they play. I'm excited about how we played. We executed extremely well in all phases of the game. That's my barometer on what our talent level is.
We are 4-0 and you can't do any better. Our next opponent is 0-4.That has nothing to do with the outcome of today's game and the series.Again,it comes down to execution.Build on our opening success and if we do we should do well. We have balance, depth, talent. That is a formula for success.I see no reason why this team should not succeed. How they stack up in the end compared with the past? Time will tell.

Agree, Bert. Beavers obviously need to find a 3rd and 4th starter as well as a couple go-to relievers, but the bats and gloves look better. Guess us old farts will see soon enough. Long johns on today and lots of fresh snow in the hills north of Surprise.

Well the talk of the opponents was centered on the extrapolations being made from the first 4 games. Really no mention of OSU lacking in any area or having poor execution. Talent level typically looks better vs undermanned teams. So everything you state is true as is most of the other superlatives mentioned in other posts.' The supposed "rain on the parade/excitement" posts were basically saying there is a ton of season left, lots can happen, 4 games is not an indicator of a season long progression/talent level. There's almost an infinite amount of examples of teams, players having extraordinary successes only to fall off. Some off the map. The "uproar" came from posters interpreting such posts as somehow demeaning the team or heaven forbid their viewpoints/excitement. Of course none of that is remotely true and entirely made up interpretations. But, when posts start going down the road of... chance to be best hitter/hitting team ever, etc etc etc some realism is expected. So after 4 games is was "this team is incredible and compares to the great teams" versus "let's hold on a bit and see some more". And, yes Xavier's record doesn't affect how players approach/play, but it does effect seeing how talent fairs vs other top flight talent. As far as I can tell from very limited data, Zags>Xavier>NM. Xavier is not Pac12 quality and there is a reason a more complete body of work is important for some. Just as last season's team scorched the ball (.377 the first 4 games that included a loss) the pitching actually allowed fewer runs (10 vs 14), yet that team hit 111 points lower in the next 7 games vs Grand Canyon and BYU! Ended the season 104 points lower over the last 50, and 107 lower in Pac12 play. And just as sweeping Xavier doesn't tell too much, losing one doesn't either. It's early in the season, it's baseball, stuff happens. But, the talent level you play against matters... in many ways.

Bert, just an addition. Boyd continued his end-of-season performance to start this year. Melton is just plain an outstanding player. Meckler=grinder. Donkey is solid with the bat and glove. Bazzana is good. Dernedde has the glove at short and I hope he can continue to grind quality plate appearances. Gret is solid at third. The surprise was Logan’s play. Hopefully, the solid play continues and he doesn’t grind down with wear and tear. In other words, I agree with your analysis.

The catching position is in much better hands this year.

Logan has been a surprise for some Beaver fans who are seeing him in good health for the first time.
The coaches however, are not surprised.

I am pleasantly surprised with the way the pitching staff has shown maturity and poise.Outside of 1 inning this year we have done a stellar job of limiting the oppositions scoring. We have had traffic on the bases but have kept the runs to a minimum. That's what excites me. We are not giving up at bats. The plate discipline has been great. Something else that sometimes gets over looked is we keep adding on runs after we get a lead. The bench players are contributing with productive outs. Sac flies come to mind. Those kind of little things make a difference. We added to last weeks success, today.
